Let me try to answer this as objectively as I can.
As far as best single GPU performance goes, Nvidia holds the performance crown with its Geforce 580.
For best single card performance, It's a close match between the Geforce 590 and the Radeon 6990.
Both have products that give very similar performance in the same price bracket. In this case, the Geforce 570 and Radeon 6970 belong in the upper segment, the Geforce 560 Ti and the RAdeon 6950 in the upper middle segment, The 550 and the 6850 and below for the lower segments.
