which linux distro for me

hi to all
i am a total new bie to linux
my system specifications are
CPU - AMD Athlon64 3200+
Mobo - ASUS A8NE
HDD - WD 250 GB sata 2
GPU - nVIDIA 6600GT
Ram - 1 GB

well my first question is taht will Mandriva Linux 2006 / 64 bit will
install on my system without any issue

as recently i tried to install PCQ linux 2006, well i was able to
install the
OS but as it bont have drivers for my Graphic Card so graphical mode
was not
active so i was unable to use the OS

so will Mandiva Linux 2006 will run in graphical mode without any
problems
on my system without ant additional driver installation

as i am totaly new to linux so i will not be able to install any
additional
drivers


please also tell about other distrows like
fedora core 5
open suse 10.1
etc

please reply as soon as possible as i am dying hard to install at
least 1
linux distro on my system

the easy one is ubuntu.else in terms of funcations & features fedora core 5 is also good.don't khow about others though

r u sure that fedora core 5 will install w/o any issue and any extra driver installation
the way we used to install mandrake on old 845 system
coz i dont want to waste rs 200 again

You can try Ubuntu 6.06. It is pretty easy to use and has a nice interface. If you have a good internet conection you can easily install large no. of softwares. But, the bundled software initially is rather limited.
If you want some distro that is packed full of software in the DVD then go for OpenSUSe 10.1.
Also get a 64-bit OS as it will give you a better performance. I think you will be able to get Ubuntu 6.06 64-bit version from someone in Delhi, since Ubuntu ships cd's to people's doorstep for free so many people order it. You may get it from someone on the forum or ILUGD mailing list.

The easiest one for users migrating from Windows is Mandriva Linux. Get the latest
Mandriva Linux 2006. It's very easy to install , maintain, automatically mounts the
Windows partitions, also NT partitions!! If you upgrade it won't get screwed-up like
Ubuntu!!
