Which Ghaphics card??

I wanted to buy a graphics card i am confused between Ati HD 6850 and 6870 1 GB ddr5.Please suggest me...


Question 1) In terms of performance which is better? My playing resolution is 1920*1080 pixels. Which brand should i look out for?

2) I am planning to buy a psu also will Corsair VX550 is enough to power either of the cards?mrgreen:

3) My configuration is Intel Core 2 duo E7300@2.66GHz,Msi p45 neo3fr, 2.5 GB ddr2@667Mhz of Ram, 500 GB Western digital Blue.

4) Best cabinet between 4k-5k? It should be well ventilated. Prefer brand (coolermaster, thermaltake etc. etc..(Note-Nzxt cabinet is not available in Kolkata.)

6870 is better than 6850.Look for Sapphire/MSI as other brands haven't yet launched their 6xxx cards(Correct me if I'm wrong.I might be.).
Yups!VX550 is enough.
Dunno much about high-end cabinets.Other members will help you regarding this.

HD 6870 is a better card but is more expensive too. An HD 6850 will cost around 11.5k whereas an HD 6870 will cost around 15.5k. A VX 500 should be enough and brands you should go for are MSI and Sapphire.
I suggest upgrading your proccesor as it will be a bottleneck for the graphics card.

Yeah, proccy upgradation is required as to avoid "bottelneck"ing of GPU...
You wont see any performance increase beyond a point... Your games fps wud be restricted to some constant value...
If possible get core2duo E8400 or E8500, as these proccessors dont require mobo upgradation too...

I know E7500 runs at 2.93GHz so those two must run at more than 3GHz.
And is it E8400 or Q8400?

Both are E's proccessors...
E8400 - 3.0 GHz
E8500 - 3.16 GHz

that good suggestion there NainO. OP should consider upgrading his proccy to E8400-E8500. used proccies of E8*** should cost same as Athlon II X4s. & carries good value.

Well I am a very amateur about this things but I have one thing to say,
You are buying a HD6870/6850 , it's great, that card will support Full HD resolution gaming flawlessly but your CPU, I mean C2D 2.6 GHz is already outdated I guess. If you look at the requirements of the newly released high graphic games they need a Quad Core as recommended spec but the graphics card needed is not much. So imo, you should get a good CPU, probably an i7/i5 and invest less for GPU. Even I find my one year old 9800GT very very good for gaming. BTW- What GPU do you have?
As I said I am an amateur, so please pardon me if I said anything wrong.

A lower performance processor wont let a high end Graphics Card to perform at its max...
Consider a bottle, its upper part(with smaller radius) is a Low End Proccy and its lower part(with much bigger radius) is a High End GPU. Even when the quantity(in our case performance) of lower part is much greater, but still it has to pass through upper part with low quantity. Thus upper part restricts the lower part to perform at its max.
This is called GPU "bottelnecking" .

A high end GPU and low end CPU combo is waste of money...

Even an e7500 @ 5.5k will do. No need to spend on e8400. If u dont want to upgrade oc the processor to 2.9 -3ghz. Get a hyper212+ cooler @ 1.8k..

I agree with Jas . If e7500 can oprate without creating a GPU bottleneck, there is no need of spending 2500 bucks more...
Moreover you wont feel a big performance difference between e8400 & e7500, but you will surely feel "A Big Price Difference"...
