The main differences between Sony W220 & Canon Ixus80 are summarised as follows:

W220 - 2.7 inch LCD; Ixus80 - 2.5 inch LCD
W220 - 30 mm lens; Ixus80 - 38 mm lens
W220 - ISO 3200 supported; Ixus - maximum ISO 1600
W220 - 4x zoom; Ixus - 3x zoom
W220 - 370 shots per charge; Ixus - 240 shots

The wide lens on the W220 is the main differentiating factor as far as I am concerned. Rest all points are manageable.

@nikeel,

1) The bigger the screen doesn't mean it's good. First look how many pixels the screen is made up of. The higher, the better but again will consume a lot of battery. Again the larger the screen the better. A 2.5 inch screen is more than enough IMO for a typical user.

2) Here W220 will be good if you want to shoot your subjects from close distance due to wide-angle lens. The IXUS 80 has a standard lens type & AFAIK you cannot use any wide-angle converters on IXUS 80. Choice is yours. IMO wide-angle isn't required unless you want to shoot a group photo of your friends in a very small room & you have no scope to get back to cover the entire area. This is where the IXUS 80 will face problem.

3) In point & shoot camera's, the ISO when set to very high values(above 800) brings in noise in large volumes which make photos almost unusable. So the ISO 3200 on W220 & ISO 1600 on Ixus 80 is of no use.

4) Offcourse, the higher the better. W220 is a edge ahead here.

5) Again W220 is good here.

@Cool G5: Yes. I agree with you on all the points. As I said in my last post, I can do with a 2.5inch LCD and other points. Only the 38mm lens of the Canon Ixus 80 is a big downer.

I am now getting more & more interested in Panasonic cameras. They seem to be real VFM phones. The Panasonic Lumix FS3 at Rs.7500 is a steal. And at a higher range the Panasonic FX36 is superb at around Rs.13k.

natural pics look good on wide angle pics....but do all cameras take wide angle at smaller size...I mean like my cam is 8 mp but while taking wide angle it takes at 2 mp..

Yup bro, they have really good value for money models. Personally I recommend you to select any one of the following : Fuji Film-FinePix S700 / Canon A590 IS / Canon SX 110 IS.

Only entry level point & shoot, you can say hobbyist camera's shoot WS images at low resolution. When you get above the entry level most of them have the capabilities to shoot WS at 8 MP or above. For eg, My canon SX 100 IS shoots WS images at 8 MP resolution.

I reviewed the models suggested by you but I have the following problems:

Fujifilm S700 - Too bulky and hence not pocketable (which I need)
Canon A590 IS - Videos max out at 640X480 at 20fps - (30fps not supported) Plus it has AA batteries which I am not in favour of
Canon SX 110 IS - Rs.18k - Out of my budget. Plus has only a 36mm (w) lens.

How would you rate the Sony W220?

You have shortlisted the camera's which exceed well over your budget.

I would recommend Sony W220 in around Rs.10K, then Canon SX 110 IS if you have a budget of over Rs.16K & if you are willing to go ahead then the Nikon D40 X :D

The reason why I am looking for the older Sony models such as W150 is that newer Sony models such as W220 are all 12 MP cameras fitted on the same sized 1/2.3" lens which leads to very high pixel density and results in heavy noise reduction...which in turn leads to softer images with great loss of detail.

Sorry for the technical language, but in simple words a 12 MP camera with a 1/2.3" lens is not an advisable buy.
