Hi i also have a problem with this, ive read most of the issues and solutions and tried them all, seems all i need to do is get the driver and install it but i cant get it anywhere, ive tried automatic driver update programs ive tried the windows update on the microsoft website but no joy

im using a rock laptop intel P4 version: D400E its using an ATI Radeon 9000 series card on win XP pro SP2 - this is a fresh installation ive installed pretty much every hotifx and framework i could find on the microsoft website

i get the same message as many others when i try to install the drivers for the card: need to install a standard VGA driver before running setup

any help with this would be greatly appreciated, thanks

you need to go to ATI, or AMD.com and search for your driver there.

mayneu. I assume installing the chipset solved your issue?

yea ive already got the match for the ATI drivers but i cant install them without the standard VGA controller driver, everytime i try to install the ati it tells me i need to install them first, all i need is a link to the standard vga driver but i cant find it anywhere ;/

so when you check device manager it shows '?' in unknown devices or under display adapter? and does it also show your ATI driver.
