USB stands for universal serial bus...it is a type of port on ur computer which lets u connects other devices such as printers, cameras, input devices, etc. now USB 2.0 simply denotes the type of port...first there was USB 1.0, then came USB 1.1, and now we have USB 2.0
USB 2.0 is currently the latest....

Nemesis is very right.

One more thing I want to add is If u have device Which support USB 2.0. It will definately run on all version USB ports i.e. 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0.

But if u have an old devive which supports USB 1.0 or 1.1 then it will not run on heigher version USB ports.

u mixed it all up
usb 2.0 doesnt work on 1.0/1.1 ( if it is ONLY usb 2.0 compatible )
and usb 1.0/1.1 works on usb 2.0

usb 2.0 max speeds = 400 ( or was that 480) mbps
dun remember the speed of the other ports now !

usb 1.1 had max data transfer rate of 12mbps and usb 2.0 has 480mb/s. wot he was trying to say was a usb2.0 device will work on a usb1.1 controller but the transfer speed will be limited to 12mb/s and usb 1.1 devices will work on usb2.0 controller wid a max speed of 12mb/s. hope that clears things.

ok i looked it up for further clarification
Question:
Will a USB 1.0 or 1.1 device work with my computer that only has USB 2.0 ports?

Answer:
The device (digital camera, card reader, scanner, hard drive, cable modem, etc.) will work with the USB 2.0 ports even if the device only has a USB 1.0 or 1.1 connection. The physical connectors are exactly the same for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. However, the device will only work at USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mbps) and not USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mbps).

Conversely, if your computer only has USB 1.0 or 1.1 ports and you would like to use a USB 2.0 device with it, the device will probably work. Again, you will only be able to transfer data at the slower USB 1.1 transfer rate. Most USB 2.0 devices are backwards compatible with USB 1.1, but for data-intensive devices (like a hard drive or iPod), the data transfer is so slow with USB 1.1, it may not even be worth using it.
like it says .. PROBABLY ....
again like i said backwards compatibility means usb 2.0 and usb 1.1 compatible
if the device is ONLY usb 2.0 compliant it will NOT work on usb 1.1 port
