Yup that's right. I just basically know what AA does :
  • Smooths edges
  • Improves Image quality
  • Screws FPS
But i don't think i know much about it. Could anyone explain it to me in detail ?

One more question -
What AA level (2x/4x/8x) and AF level (8x/16x)will be sufficient for a 1024x768 resolution gaming at high settings for best Image quality? In such scenarios will the game performance be dependent on my GPU or CPU?

4x AA is supposed to be good for a 1024x768 resolution screen, but as you have a 15" TFT, I suppose 2x may be suffitient.

The game performance in these situations will depend on the GPU usually, but its *possible* to use the CPU to boost things up, if your i865 :p mobo's onboard graphics chip can't handle things well. I heard of some hacks to do this, but I can't give much information about the same.

8Xs has the same load as 4X nd have better image quality.
And if u use higher resolutions on a relatively small monitor, then AA is not that needed. Like on a 17" CRT playing @ 1280*1024 dun need AA much. 2X wud do fine.
But if u play @ 800*600 on a 17" CRT, then at least 4x or 8xs shud be set for gud quality.

In games like Crysis, even higher AA setings shows bit of small jaggies. So it also depends on game engine.

relatively small monitor ? This guy has a 15" Samsung TFT Supporting a maximum of 1024x728 resolution. I don't think AA is even needed here. Still, for 800x600 and 640x480 games(if they exist today) and games like ragnarok, I suppose 2x will do.
