What After B Tech ?

Hello all this is my first post in forum hope ya'll be nice to me

I do know that things like these are to be decided on our own and nobody can exactly TELL you what to do . But ive seen lotta people getting good POINTERS from fellow members here when i GOOGLed my dilemma hence posting here.


A little background:
10th cbse : 80%
12th cbse : 80%
B Tech :Now this is the part i hate the most , wasted 4 years of my life studying something (electrical and electronics) i have had no interest in whatsoever only because my relatives were of the mindset that only a professional degree would cut it these days . No interest doesn't mean that i gave up on it ( i couldn't actually because am from a lower middle class family and was studying on an educational loan ). I have no backpapers till now (awaiting final semester results ) but the thing is all these 8 sems what I’ve been doing is simply MUGGING up to pass (YES, a benefactor of the GREAT INDIAN education system !). Am an EEE graduate(well, almost!) and even if you ask me some newbie questions like how an induction motor works or something of the sorts i seriously have NO IDEA !!

My dilemma: Am pretty sure that I’ll pass the last sems also but what after that. I obviously have no intentions of going for MTECH and i don't know if MBA is my thing (even if it is, i don't think i can crack CAT). So it brings me to the point of JOB searching. I've been looking at various openings for freshers only to realize that you have no chance of getting a decent placement anywhere even with a BTech pass certificate if you do not have the requisite skills -which sadly are programming based (java/.net/c/c++/python) and i have no programming background whatsoever. At this point i hear about certification courses that add value to your resume (like CCNA .. not sure what else are there ) but have no idea if they're worthy either .In short i think i am pretty much screwed up.

Now onto what i want you guys to tell me:
*Am pretty sure there are plenty of other options am not exploring here i want some pointers on what they are, if any exists.
*Also I’d like to know if learning programming/scripting is absolutely necessary these days ,if so i can have shot at that too, i know it can't be done in a day or two yet i am willing to TRY but like i said i have no programming background so i need to know which is the best language to get myself accustomed with(from a job seekers perspective) and what resources are available to get started with.
*And last please comment on some certification courses, if they'd do me any good

seems like you have decent english skill & if you can have some decent 10th class level maths skills too i suggest looking for a psu/govt job in banks & insurance sector & also ssc cgl exam(though waiting period is very long),take a look here:

Why are you worried? I know people with ranks less than 1000 in GATE who cannot properly explain such mundane things. You'll do fine giving either CAT or GATE. Those aren't big shot conceptual exams. In industry, no one is expected to remember every concept indefinitely. The experience of working in an industrial setting is what they look for - you with your engineering training are at least familiar with how many of these machineries work. If you have the professional attitude, you will get a job.

You'll find jobs in electrical/electronics engineering if you search hard enough. However, you should at least remember microprocessor/microcontroller programming.

People think it's a great fad to flash their "M.Tech" degrees in front of a crowd and mostly join for job opportunities and additional qualification. The reality of M.Tech is that is an extension of your B.Tech. M.Tech gives some job opportunities if you do it from IITs. Otherwise, it is just added qualification that will hardly serve any purpose in industry.

Now, M.Tech is needed to get into teaching line, so it makes sense if you want to go that way. In India, basically M.Tech = MSc. Almost none of the programs really teach you something new. It's mainly a degree for bragging rights and project/research experience as the entire final year is usually spent on project work .

It is meant for people who are interested in research and teaching line, not so much for industry. Don't do if you don't want to get into research.

Really appreciate your help mate . I have had a look at those bank exam patterns and i really think that with some hardwork i can crack those easily , am worried how i will fare in interviews though - its entirely upto fate i think but am farely confident that i can crack the written exams with preparation . I've lost opportunity to apply for PO this time around btw clerk exams are due in august and i can apply for them (starting salary is just 13k i heard though and i assume work load ain't high as PO)
Also ive heard SSC exams are easier to crack than bank ones but from their site it looks like you've to qualify tier i , tier ii and then personal interview if so how come its easier
Again the thing that worries me is even if i put in all the hard work (which i am wiling to) what if my interviews go dull - trust me i have reasons to believe so.

Well i dunno if i can crack GATE but ill give my best shot at it for sure . And yes microprocesors was one of the few subjects i felt comfortable with during my entire course span . I don't think ill get into IITs though

ssc cgl is much tougher than bank po because of much more competition(more & better prepared candidates) even if the paper itself seems easier than bank po.in bank po interview all you have to do is clear interview cutoff(40 out of 100 for general category) which is possible even with an average interview unless you offend some interview board member by speaking negatively about bank job even if not intentionally(e.g.some candidates who have cleared upsc or ssc written & waiting for results speak in interview like bank po is just some time pass/temporary solution until they can get a better job).just answer as many questions as possible without any guessing(showing that you are trying to be smart when you are not is bad).speak highly of bank po job by saying it has good opportunities(it is true) even if it has work load,that you know some friend/relative who is in bank(if not gather sufficient info first from someone working as po otherwise they will know you are lying) & they have said positive things about this job if one is a hard working person(also true because if you are not a hard working person po job will feel like hell).

You can better go for a job in your favorite field! To get your dream job easily, better you can contact some trust able job recruitment agencies like Careers International, even you can get a chance to work in abroad countries with good salary package!
