I am very much interested in Web Designing. I am very good at HTML and CSS and also very much comfortable with Dreamweaver and other softwares.....

In fact I have also designed a couple of websites myself.... Is there any formal course on webdesigning.... I mean when is a person called a webdesigner.... What is nature of job of a webdesigner?

I am unsure as to what kind of scope is there in Web Designing as a career. Which are advanced courses in Web Designing? Which institutions are the best in Mumbai?

I would be glad if someone can elaborate on these queries or provide some websites....

Thats good if you know all these software
my suggestion for you is to also learn Photoshop & Specially Slicing in PS
also Learn Macromedica Flash (for creating Animations)

Web Designer & Web Developer are different

If you know Well Designing & Coding - You can create Web Page you will become Web Desinger

If you want to become Web Developer than you must also learn some feature of Web like Database, creating Ecommerce Website etc.

in Mumbai NIIT & Aptech both are very good & costly Institutes for Learning Web Development
Aptech Andheri (HeadOffice) branch teaches very well & little cheap
but NIIT's dont teach as well as Aptech & also waste a lot of time like 1- 1.5 year also it is more costly - but its Web Development Course has more value

From whereever you learn, you have to do a lot of Practice & gain knowledge yourself to become a Profession in Web Development

so you think for yourself as per & opt for the best

Can you Post your created Website so let digitians take a look and comment on your skills

Appreciate your post very much.... Thanks....

I am comfortable with some advanced features/scripts (well not sure if I can call them advanced!) such as PHP and CMS such as Joomla and Drupal.... In fact I had developed a discussion forum as well with myBB... but couldn't quite find visitors and consequently scrapped it. The same happened with a Digg-like site that I created.... (I am currently working on Questions & Answers type site.... I shall surely post it once it is done for the valuable scrutiny/comments of Digitians.... )

So, the point is I am quite confident about these, but I have no formal backing, i.e. I haven't undergone any formal courses from any of the institutions... all that I have learnt is by myself...

So, while I may not be professionally competent at database languages like mySQL or at creating an E-commerce website.... I can still create a pretty good site and can learn fast....

So what I dont know is that :-

> Is there any formal course that I must pursue to be able to be competent or to be called a "web developer"?

> Is it that after becoming one, I can individually practice, that is, I can create other people's websites for a fee or that I can get a job around.... that is what I meant by prospects or scope of Web Designing.... So is such scope or prospect bright enough that we can get enough clients for website designing or get a respectable job?

How is Microsoft visual web developer when compared to other tools available? I think it doesn't support moving around components(like buttons) as in dream weaver isn't? so wts the use?

Is Visual Web Developer 2008 included in visual studio 2008?

IMHO, till date, Dreamweaver is THE best software for web designers. All others comes later !

you are already a Professional Web Developer

if you want exp. make your profile & try to get a job
do a job in any Local Company for 3-4 months just to get Professional Exp.
Most of localites company donsent asks for Certificate/Diploma they seek for personal experience & expert guys

OR

as you said you have made a couple of sites, so if you need you can take some works from your local contact & make their sites this will improve your Quality & Pro. Experience

If you wanna work in MNC's than go for a course from NIIT or Aptech
but they will teach you frm basic & waste a lot of time

I suggest you to do a job in local company & join a Reputed Institute for Diploma so after 1-1.5 yrs you will be master in Web Development with Diploma & Experience and you can easily get a Job in Multinational's :D

@YeshVed as much you have told us you are a web designer so You don't require any courses. Web designing is such a work ,which reflects when you do it, not when you speak it.

I am giving you names of some sites where you can earn some good money for your knowledge and it will also add to your experience.

Odesk is the best one among these.

And if you need some permanent job then i afraid you have to do some courses. Just look into your locality if someone has a franchise of any company and promise to provide you a genuine certificate in web designing . Do few month course form them. In my city you can do such courses in 500 per month basis. You are from Mumbai you can certianly do many things.

I visited Odesk and I suppose they don't have cheques as payment option. Also, I read a lot about Odesk, but could not figure out exactly what kind of job they want.... I mean would they tell me to create an entire website or simply design or a code, etc. Also, and did not understand that monitoring thing at all.....

Can u please explain me more about Odesk? Thanks in advance....

1. At O-desk the first thing you need is to do a registration.
2. then you have to create your profile by filling the details about you.
3. You have to mention you hourly rate, that how much you expect them to pay if you work on hourly basis.
4. Then you will starting getting mails about the jobs available on the date. Or you can go to that website and check for the jobs.
5. Select the jobs which you think you can do it and start bidding.
6. If any one feels you are suitable and your rates are suitable then he will contact you. And then you can finalize the deal.
7. I will suggest you to work on hourly basis as you earn money every hour you work for them.
8. For more you go through the site and other manual available there.
