Virus affected hardware?

In my system.. there were a lot of viruses. since i couldnt clear them through an antivirus...i formated c drive alone and installed a fresh copy of win xp... within a few minutes i found the virus again... so i formated the complete hard disk and installed xp again... within a few minutes the virus popped up again... i'm afraid whether my hardwares are affected by virus... if so kindly tell me how to find out which hardware is affected.... thanks

LOL, the hardware never gets any virus, since virus belongs to software category!

Did you really formatted the entire Hard Disk Drive from the Windows XP installation wizard? If not, do it from there.
Remember: Disconnect other drives like pen-drives, extra HDDs at the time of installation & make sure the antivirus software you are also installing does come from a secure media.

@op first install any trial version of AV software scan all ur drives+pendrives+disks then format ur pc

Is your copy of xp genuine? If not scan the os disk first

@curioustechy: its a software issue & not h/w related...
do a deep scan of the harddisk with a good updated antivirus.
& use a genuine copy of OS.

all who has replied are of the opinion that virus 'never' damages hardware. this is a new, surprising information to me.. i've read 1 or 2 times some where but dont remember exactly that anti viruses are programs some of which are powerful enough to destroy the hardware itself by executing the malicious programs... anyway i'm not heading for an argument, but would like to have a more expert opinion... the copy of xp which i installed is a time tested one...i'd been using it for the last 8 yrs... there is no problem with the os - 100 percent sure... as i told first i installed a fresh copy of xp while being inside the os (i mean double clicking the cd icon)..at that time i formatted only the c drive... as soon as i finished installing that virus popped up, forcing me to do a perfect installation... i booted from the cd itself and formatted the complete hard disk and partitioned it and then installed xp in one of its partition...even at this time even before plugging in a pen drive or using a cd/dvd, the virus popped up - its a kinda svchost virus... now please suggest whether ur points are valid

Svchost.exe is the name of a generic host process for services that run from dynamic link libraries (DLLs). It is a requred system process but its also possible that it may be svchost.exe virus.

Did you select the option of quick format or full format? If you did quick one, do a full format next time and then post what are the results.

can u please name the dumb site or book where u have read that awesome fact to directly address to hardware as far as i know low level or assembly language program is required & viruses r written in high level

Not all Svchost.exe need to be malware.

If your OS disc is clean, and you did a complete format and install, your system is as good as new. You can do the following things to secure your PC

1. Install Avast Free.

2. Install Adaware anti malware.

3. Install Comodo firewall.

Do all these just after fresh installation of OS (if you are planning one). You can also use McAffe Stinger / CA Yahoo Antispy and run a scan (in addition to step 1 -3).

If you are connected to LAN, it may be causing the issue if it is not your folders on optical or USB drives.

where was the previous XP installed(drive?).

Well, can your mental thoughts affect the behaviour of a third person? Similarly viruses cannot affect hardware.

I have heard that some viruses can affect BIOS.If that so HDD formatting wont help.But the chances are less you could try deleting all the existing partitions and create again.I have had a similar kind of problem before and this method worked for me.

What does TIME TESTED mean ?? You are not using a LEGAL copy of XP right ?

So, all suggestions given to you is waste of TIME.

brother, just google it. u will find a lot of 'dumb' sites...what u told is correct - but dont forget that there should be some link between a hardware and a software- the firmware. its language is something else. i know its a rare phenomenon of virus attacking a hardware - but IT DOES - i didnt mean any physical damage; it could simply render the hardware useless - this is also for THE CONQUEROR

No messages popped up. but i was not able to access control panel. then audio driver disappeared.i installed it again and it again disappeared. what could it be..i was also denied access to task manager

this i am very eager to know that what exactly are the differences. While i am buying licensed version software one of my office colleagues uses everything pirated(except the hardware), even the KIS 2012. My win 7 is getting updated from microsoft and his pirated win 7 is also getting updated from Microsoft without any issue.WHAT I AM GAINING AND HE IS LOOSING?What more!! he is selling that pirated version also in his locality and constantly alluring me to use the software free of cost.just making the joke out of me and saying "why the hell r u buying when everything is available in Internet?" i just ignore him coz i do not know the answer.Top to bottom corrupted guy.
IMO there should be a separate thread regarding the difference of genuine vs pirated software which is apparently not visible. Not the source of piracy or any link but the theoretical discussion regarding the cons of using the pirated version and the pros of using genuine version.Also how to report the Software manufacturers regarding this misuse.
