Guys... I wanna know how to get rid of the black portions above & below the video files while editin it.. is there some method of gettin only a required "viewport" of the video.. i.e. only some part (like bottom quarter part) as video.. some method of zoomin & croppin while editin the video...

Some of the video files i occupy little screen space.. the rest is the black bands.. esp in 16:9 type files.. i want the visible portion to fill the entire space.. like zoomin.. but while editin the video... ANY IDEA HOW?

Oh, OK, didnt know you were using Windows 98, thought you were using XP. :D Anyway, Sisoft Sandra should be able to give you the information you're looking for. Download it from here:

if u r a pro in editing, then try Adobe Premiere or, Ulead Media Studio Pro
v8.0 or, later. Else try Virtua Dub v1.5.0 [find on Digit DVD, Dec '04 or,
Jan '05]. It is very easy & just ment for the purpose u r looking !

Darnn.....this is really simple.....Use Tmpgenc and Use the 1:1 screen option and In The advanced Section select The "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio" Option on and Just convert the video :D If its original Aspect ratio is Wide Screen i.e 16:9 Then this option can be used to eliminate those Black Bars Above and Below

get Tmpgenc from here
www.tmpgenc.net/e_download.html

And here's a tuturial for it Just to get a rough idea
*www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

If any help needed Do ask

@enoonmai....I suppose SIS Sandra is a bechmarking and A hardware analysis tool mate....isnt it??? :?

hmmm
changing a 16:9 to a 1:1 will change the aspect ratio of the video anyways
so ur video wont be zoomed ... it'll be stretched vertically
and trust me u dun want that ....
those black bands are there for a reason ... to keep the aspect ratio
since all tv's arent 16:9 ratio compatible u see these bands as much bigger than on a tv which does support it
i suggest u dun do it .. or atleast keep ur original copy and see the output of one file before u decide on what to do

there is also another option in tmpgenc called clip frame
u can trial and error with that if u wish !

Yup sure will be....but will be a fair enough conversion as the video after being stretched (i.e From an original 16:9 wide screen) looks better in the Full screen mode....aint no big diff in the calrity....just that some portions which were blacked out by the wide screen become visible  Ttust me have tried this on a couple of DVD-Rips 8)

Well the clip frame will add on Black or any color bars to it rather and aint gonna remvoe those black bars i suppose.....this is where i learnt how to add a wide screen sorta viewing for the Movie which was originally in full screen 8) which is why i usually stick to the Wide screen editions :D

im pretty sure theres an option in tmpgenc to clip that black border
well anyways ... i did the full screen to one of my fav movies .. and i hate it now ... not the movie ofcourse ...
the aspect ratio jsut doesnt seem right .. thats y i recommended againsdt it .. or rather for him to "try it out" before making a final decision! ;)

btw that movie's : Bad Boys !

Hey.. VirtualDub did it when i used the RESIZE filter alongwith CROPPIN option.

But VirtualDub saves only as AVI... I have minimal disk space. I need 2 convert directly 2 mpg or so...

TMPGEnc just resized the movie.. not cropped the black portions... Can't the croppin b done in TMPGEnc?

To conver to avi just add .mpeg to the file name while saving . and u are done . need to compress further then use divx codec and compress it further using virtual dub !

U gotta be kiddin me man....the renaming that u are talking about wont work.....If u think it would be that simple as converting .avi to .mpg by renaming its extension then consider all my divx movies converted to mpg format in just a mere seconds   Plzzz dun misguide dude

@koolbulez.....Virtual dub just saves the files to .avi format i.e after Compression via usage of a specified codec :(
here's a link for Tmpgenc for cropping images *www.digital-digest.com/dvd/articles/tmpgenc_vcd.html#crop

Right said allwyndlima.. a mere change of extension doesn't change a codec... defintely not like *.bmp to *.ico conversion for making icons

But.. hey... i got my work done.. thnx to TMPGEnc...

I didn't c the CLIP FRAME filter last time.. but now everythings fine & workin well.

Thnx guys... TMPGEnc rocks!!!
