870m would barely compete with GTX 960, let alone a GTX 980.

Will it work fine with Nvidia 940m and Intel i5 sixth generation with 8 gigs of RAM? The OS is 10 Home version. And what's the difference between "GTX" and "m"?

For bold part, nope.
GTX is for high-end (both laptop and desktop) nVidia GPUs while "m" is for their laptop GPUs.

VR minimum spec is rendering 3D content at 2560x1200 resolution at a minimum framerate of 60 fps.. Why are u so interested in Oculus rift or HTC Vive anyway ? You should know they cost 500$ just for their kits and again are not a daily driver gadget. Its not even officially launched in India yet, your best VR bet would be current implementation of phone VR or google's upcoming implementation for select smartphones

Will it work with every phone or with their line of Nexus phones? Sammy also released a news about gear 2 with major improvements in the last quarter.

Daydream will only work with specific 'daydream certified phones'. Right now no phone is suitable for daydream (except one made by zte I think).
Thankfully google has tied with a lot of companies to make these. Samsung, HTC, LG, Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, Asus and Alcatel -

Daydream phones will in probability be expensive to start with, but lets see.

Daydream is where Google has started getting serious about VR. yay
