problem of a friend:

"i have 4 in 1 card reader. if i insert card reader directly in my pc it works, but if used with usb cable, it shows usb device not recognized error.

i have 4 usb ports in back panel and 2 ports in front panel which is attached with the mother board. in front panel i put card reader in 1st port its working without out cable. after that i attached cable in the same port and plugin card reader it shows usb not recognised. i plugin bluetooth its working in that cable. again i plugin another card reader it also shows usb not recognised."

He has ati radeon xpress 200 series motherboard, windows xp sp3 32bit.

What to do?

sometimes usb cable fails to deliver sufficient power & front usb ports usually delivers less power than back usb ports.it is recommended to use usb cables/more power hungry devices like 3g usb modems etc with back usb ports & use front usb ports for pen drives/bluetooth dongle etc.

Something wrong with the USB cable. Try another one.

already checked with that and another one. usb cable is fine. in fact if only the card reader is removed and bluetooth dongle in inserted in that cable (in the same usb port), it works.
