Hi,

I have a Mercury KOB 845 NFSX Motherboard with onboard
AC97 audio.I want to connect my Altec Lansing 251 5.1 Speaker
to it.It have three jacks Light green, black, yellow. Now only green
one is connected to spk out.I have a line-in and mic port left.My motherboard manual says it has 6 ch audio support and the speaker
setup in the control panel shows headphone,2,2.1,4,4.1,5.1 speaker
setup. Now its on 5.1.Now the speaker has 2/4 ch setup for 6 ch emulation.

Please tell me if i can connect my spks to my motherboard or not.
Otherwise I am looking for a PCI sound card for budget of 2000/-.

Please HELP

You need 3 output jacks if you want to hook up 5.1 speakers to your mobo-one each for front speakers, rear speakers, and center+subwoofer. They are usually coded green, black, and orange/yellow.

You can take a look at the low-end Creative sound cards that will give you good 5.1 sound for less than 2000.

Actually your Mobo is having 6 channel output. If you enable 5.1 channel inyour audio control panel, the three available jacks the audio out(Green), the line in(blue) and the mic (Rose) will emulate the 5.1 audio setup.

Means the Audio out will be your Front Left & Right speaker output.
And the Line-in & Mic jacks will work as Rear L/R and the center/Subwoofer jacks.

But nyway the quality of audio will be no where near the PCI cards from creative.

I recommend u to spend some 1900 bucks for a Creative Live series card, if u want to explore the full power of your Altec Lansing 251.
