Urgent help needed in Ubuntu installation !

So I was gonna dual boot my XP with Ubuntu 11.10.
I used a Live USB for this. Everything was fine and I set the partitions in the following way:
One primary partition for Windows was already there.
There were two other partitions which I deleted and merged to get a single primary partition and formatted it with ext4 file system.
And there was a small space around 600 MB that was unused on HDD.
Then the installer said that you need a swap partition for virtual memory so I assigned that 600 MB for swap, and started the installation.
Now the installation is as if hung at "Retrieving file 43 of 93" for like 30 min, and now its freaking me out.
What did I do wrong? Is the swap partition too small?
Need urgent help..
I'm accessing the net from within the Live USB with the installation on.

Installation went fine, nevermind.. got a little paranoid there.
But now there are a few problems:
Sound quality is poor, and even though I set the default player for audio and video to VLC media player, it still opens Banshee media player.

Skip it. Its fetching files from the internet.
Swap partition should be-
min: the size of main memory
max:double the size of main memory

hai,
you have done the wrong setting in swap partition . your swap partition must be 2 times the size of RAM . next the process might be stopped because of damage on your cd. just dont worry clean it and try it again.

and also remember to uncheck any third party installation. it starts downloding data from internet.
best if luck and install succesfully.
