presently i'm using P-III processor. i would like to upgrade to
1) p-IV or AMD-64 bit which is better?
2) mother board INTEL 915 series or ASUS please suggest any?
3) i would like to retain the hard disk (Seagate 80 GB DMA) which mother board will support this
4) i'm having one CD rom and CD writer. whether i should keep them or go for DVD writer?
5) my budget is 15k and would like to know if the mother board supports a fair bit of decent graphics without the need for seperate card?
HI...
your budget is good enough fo upgrading...but plz don't expect top of the line performance from this..if you really wat blazing fast performance then i'll suggest you go upgrading UR upgrading budget(pun intended

)
and now abt ur queries....
>>>AMD 64-bit processor is definately better than p-iv however there are not much apps. on windows platform to take full advantage of this processors
however there are in linux but again not much,but there might be in future...so i'll advice you to stick to it...for prices i'll prefer if you could talk to your vendor,he'll guide you in respect to ur budget....but let me tell you 64-bit processors are expensive though not a bomb for entry level but the still are ...so look 2wards ur pocket before buying
>>>ASUS is definately better however it is expensive(very expensive indeed

) i don't think a 64-bit processor and a mid-range asus motherboardwill fit in your budget and if it does it won't leave much money..
so if money is your concern i'll prefer you to go for MSi or gigabyte they have some good models..and if you are an intel fan you should go for that but then it won't support AMD processor but if you must then plz at least don't buy 915 chipset,its obsolete(baba aadam ke zamaane ka hai),newer ones are available widely and are cheap.
>>>i am sure abt that asus models(some not all)will support your current harddisk but not sure abt intel ones(however i know they will,again ....some not all),ask your vendor he'll give you all the necessary details
>>>go for dvd writer-LITE-ON drives are excellent you can get one dvd writer for RS.3000 something(RS.500 up or down)
>>well again back to square one..asus does support on boardgraphics( and good one)..how much you ask? that depends on your model,intel also does support but anyway in both the cases you'll need big RAM if your motherboard will support onboardgraphics then it will share memory of your physical RAM i suggest you to upgrade RAM also since it is one of the most important part of computer and no upgradation is complete without upgradation of RAM,i'm assuming that you are having 256MB RAM,i suggest you to go for at least 512 MB of DDR RAM(and if your mboard supports go for DDR2)you can get a good branded one and that too cheap
well i hope this sorts out your query and abt model nos. and their prices ,..tell me if you want them,then i'll do some research and tell you the model nos. and their estimate/official prices(of course you can get them cheaper than the given price)
