1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Office, graphic & multimedia work. I'll work on application like MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Indesign, Premiere, Corel Draw, Internet (Surfing, searching, email), Media Player to watch films etc. Maybe some games, not heavy user.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Rs 12.5k, can add 3k (max)

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows XP & 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: None. Have 160 GB SATA internal drive & 250 GB USB drive.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Have Samsung 2033sw. resolution might be 1680 x 1050 or more (probably).

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Didn't wish to buy Monitor, HDD, Speaker, UPS.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: in 10-15 days.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will assemble myself.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhi, will buy from Nehru Place (CE or CTC), but can purchase online also.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I don't have graphic card but looking for good onboard graphic cards mobo to save few bucks. Am able to run above mentioned application? Secondly, I'll use my system for 12-14 hours daily.

I've following configuration in my mind -

1) AMD Athlon II x4 640 or 645 or 960 BE
2) Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P (rev. 3.1)
3) Corsair 4GB X 1 1333 MHz DDR3
4) DVD Writer
5) Zebronics Bijli
6) Corsair cx430v2 or Corsair VS450

Please share your thoughts on my requirements. Please also suggest Intel based system.

Thanks.

Is anything wrong with my request? Please let me know.

Thanks for giving suggestion.

Which is better for my purpose- Quad FX - 4100 or A6 3650 or Phenom II X4 955.

Thanks.

955 is cheap as well as fast. A6 processing core is not too fast but the GPU part is. i'll suggest to go for 955/960 & grab a 4k GPU sometime later if you feel the need for it. something like HD6670 should be available for 4k in a few months.

Sam, if one is not ready put more money for GPU, then will AMD A6-3650 be suitable for them? coz even if we try to suggest Pentium G620 and a decent GPU @ 5K, it will be more than the price of AMD A6. especially casual gamers.

actually A6 looses in almost everything that requires heavy processing power: System Benchmarks: LFE / Photoshop CS4 / x264 HD. thats why i suggested Phenom II X4 and adding a GPU after a few months.

So what is AMD upto with their APUs. For non-gamers, Anandtech is recommending not even consider them, better go for Sandy bridge. mainstream need not consider it. So even if casual gamers wouldn't consider Phenom II X4 or Pentium G620 where does A6 fit it?, it seems to hold record for lowest performing quadcore CPU in the market.

yeah Phenom is definitely choice after Athlon II X4 disappeared. But disappointed with AMD APUs and Bulldozers. Its becoming even worse compared to days of Core 2 Vs Phenom/Athlon II . Even then Intel was leading but now the gap has further widened as far as CPU performance is concerned. Intel has rubbed salt on AMDs wounds by releasing Core i5 Sandy bridge at 10 to 12K price. Look at how Intels Budget Core i3 dual core challenging quad-core Phenom Series. taunting my two cores are more than enough for your four.

Thanks everybody for advice.

I think Core i5 is out of my budget. Could you please suggest complete configuration of i3 based system?

Thanks in advance.

you get an Athlon II with a capable GPU for 2/3 what you'll usually pay. so you can add a GPU later or may crossfire it with internal GPU. also A6 is more centered on HTPC use rather than gaming PCs.

Processor: Core i3 2100- 6.2K
Motherboard: Intel DH61SA- 3.5K
everything else is same as suggested by SAM.

Even though Core i3s performance can match Phenom II X4. Its always better to have two extra cores, future softwareswould fully exploit all the four cores which gives Phenom slight edge.

Thanks everybody for suggestion. However, I'm still undecided about 955 and Core i3 2100. I haven't checked 955's availability in Nehru Place while i3 2100 is available in NP.

I've one doubt regarding psu. Is Corsair CX430V2 is sufficient even if I add 2 HDD & 1 GPU (as suggested by SAM for 955).

The PSU is sufficient for GPUs upto Radeon HD 7770.

Phenom series are disappearing from market, it may be hard fine one. If you cannot find, then Core i3 2100 is a good option.

HDD doesn't require a lot of power. say 5-7W for each HDD.

for the processor, try 960T. if you are lucky, you may unlock it to a stable X6.
