Hello!

My cousin is looking forward to build an ultra budget PC and has a budget of 20000 (can be slightly stretched if there's no other way)

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')

Ans: Gaming (FIFA 14, 13), HD Movies, the usual office apps and internet stuff
Games - FIFA 13, FIFA 14, Batman Arkham series

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Ans: 20000, can extend a little if absolutely necessary.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Nope

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Window 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:Yes, cheapest that would fit the budget. Preferably an 18.5"

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: None

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: End of this month

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Assembler!

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Lucknow, Also open to buying used components from TD, E or TE. :)

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: The PC NEEDS to handle FIFA 13, FIFA 14 fluently. That's his main requirement.

I did some research and could arrive at this system -
CPU - AMD A4 - 6300 - Rs. 3250
Motherboard - MSI FM2-A55M-E33 - Rs. 3400
Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB - Rs. 3100
RAM - EVM 2x2GB DDR3 1333MHZ - Rs. 2500
Graphics Card - None
PSU - Corsair VS450 - Rs. 2150
Keyboard + Mouse - Logitech MK200 - combo
Display - 18.5" 1366x768 - Dell E1914H - Rs. 5500
Speakers - None Required
Cabinet - Local - Rs. 700

TOTAL - Rs. 20600

I have a couple of concerns -
1) Will the 8370D in the A4-6300 be able to handle FIFA 13/14 at 768p resolution on high settings?
2) Can I skip the PSU for now and go with a local one since I dont need to add a GPU right now? If I do that, I could probably get faster 1600MHZ RAM's instead.
3) Should he go for a 4GBx1 RAM stick instead of a 2x2 right now?
4) Can someone suggest an alternate build? (Intel Pentium perhaps?)
5) He's open to buying used components (apart from the monitor, cabby, keyboard and mouse)

Please Advise
Thanks!

Geeeek
Don't go for that proc, neither the processor is strong nor the igpu is.That would barely handle fifa 13 at high.

Intel 2.9 GHz LGA 1155 G2020 Processor-3450
Gigabyte GA-H61M-S1 Motherboard-3050
Sapphire AMD/ATI Radeon R7 240 with Boost 1 GB DDR5 Graphics Card-5550
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB-3000
Corsair value select 1600mhz-2400
Corsair vs450-2150

You can change to this monitor even, about the same price as the one you've mentioned:dELL"18.5" - IN1930

This would total to 19,600,proce,gpu and board prices are from flipkart, you would get a better deal locally.I would say save some money and go for this or skip the gpu for now and get the above config along the monitor and keyboard combos you've mentioned and later get the gpu in a month or two after saving some money for the same.

The above config is the least you should go for solid performance even for everyday tasks let alone the games you've mentioned.

The proc you've selected will not keep you happy even with everyday tasks.

You can even opt for an Apu like A10-5800k and a fm2 board if you get a good deal on that, leave the gpu in that case.

After all this is my opinion, you should wait for some experienced members to post.

choose antec bp300p over corsair vs series psu.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! If I do go for an Intel build the budget shoots upto 25.5k. Is it advisable to buy these components from the marketplace? The budget is strict. The guy is still in school :p

search locally. you might get better deals locally. if you are very tight on budget, skip gpu now which can be bought later. Let's see if he is satisfied with the igpu.:)

I was actually surprised to find that local market do have better deals than online ones(I shopped last month for my pc). There are some thumb rules though:-
1) Get atleast 5 quotations from different shops. Do ask if the items will be sold on given price or excludes taxes and other charges.
2) Also ask the price is applicable for individual items or full set.
3) They would ask you the purpose of the pc and will push anything according to their halfcooked knowledge and availability of stock with him.
4) Be rigid to your config while dealing with them.
5) Adjoining shop also have huge price differences.
6) (OPTIONAL) After comparing quotes go to the shop with generally lowest quotes and bargain for those items which he has quoted high.
7) Don't be shy to ask for freebies like mousepad, usb dock, card reader

thanks for the input guys. pgmadhav - that was pretty helpful, but I am in New Delhi and he is in Lucknow so most of the purchase will be done by me online itself. Nevertheless, your post is invaluable! TY!

Everyone, this is what I'm getting/have gotten(partially) for him -
Intel G2020 Processor(from the forums)
MSI G61 Motherboard(from the forums)
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 500GB (RMA'd drive, brand new.. again from the forums)
Kingston Value 1333MHz 4GB DDR3 RAM (new)
Corsair VS450-2150 (new)

and..
Since I got some used components from the forums(all of them have warranty remaining on them), I also looked around for a GPU and voila! one of my friends was looking to upgrade his Sapphire 7750 1GB GDDR5 to a Zotac GTX660. So, 5.5k for that deal..(Its way faster than an R7 240, a 6670 and even a hair faster than an R7 250)
Also, he already has an old 15.6" monitor(1366x768) which he says he doesn't mind reusing so a new monitor purchase can come later.

I'm pretty sure his FIFA needs should be met easily whilst giving him the head-space for some heavier titles. I don't see any game that can't be run with at least medium settings on that resolution.

So, what do you guys think?
