after the welcome screen moniter splashes a few times and here comes the error....

" display has been restarted 6 times in 90 seconds there is something bad happening wait for 2 minutes to try again"
i tried 3-4 times got same error..
is it the problem with my graphics card...

wats the solution for this...
system configuration:- pentium D (dual), asus P5GZ-MX motherboard, 1GB transend DDR2, ATI X1550 series graphics card...

I think that the X window server in linux is not opening and keep trying to open. That's why your display restarted so many times.

Try install the distro with onboard video and check if the error persists. I think that using the onboard on will solve your problem.
