two windows xp professional?

dear friends,

during booting up,there appears two operating system,i.e windows xp professional.i donot know how to put it here.

i had recently formatted.intially the os was installed in C drive.Now i had installed the same in D drive.

because of the above i experience only little booting delay.still how to get rid these duplication?

hi there, if u had installed twice the copy of windows, no matter its the same version or not, u ll get the 2 OS selection option.

if u want to just retain 1 OS from it, then use partition magic, quick format the drive u dont need windows( doesnt matter if u hav logged on to it too) and then it wud restart in dos mode complete the operation but since u formatted the Partition magic itself which was on that drive, it wud say some error and ask for restart, jus restart and then insert ur windows xp bootable CD after changing hte boot options and choose repair, in the options, see hte help for bootcfg and rewrite the boot file. u r done. now u hav only 1 OS. if this is wat u asked for!

Go to STAR>RUN>msconfig>
Then click the tab marked boot.ini...now click the tab marked"check all boot paths";the invalid windows install will most probabaly be deleted.

hi.....just check which of the 2 is proper working

now type c:\boot.ini in the adress bar...a notepad file will open....

u will clearly see 2 lines denoting ur 2 choices...just delete the line that is not required....and change the default if required...and it's done...and plz dont mess around too much with this file....

All the Booting Options for Microsoft Windows are Located in C:\Boot.ini you can Edit the File to remove the Optiion.

Even i had done the same mistake as you but after doing what serendipiti said,its working fine

i think u just need to modify ur Boot Notepad to remove the extra entry of WinXP.
