two Vista issues that frustrate me

Guys, please please help me out to resolve the following two issues:

1) If I unplug and plug the audio cable, I am not getting sound from speakers. I see that when I play any song, the audio meter is jumping (when I click the speaker icon in the bottom right corner).

2) When I disconnect LAN, vista freezes and all that I can do is hard reset

I faced the first problem you mentioned yesterday. I saw that my HD audio device was not getting detected. Drivers reinstalls fixed it.

Regarding NIC Issue, try to change the mode to Ethernet from Gigabit Ethernet. Also try to change Duplex to Full Duplex,100 Mbps Ethernet.

What is your audio driver version ?
Check from the vendor's website whether the driver is vista compatible.
