Guys, I have been having a lot of trouble with the Avast AV that I am using for my Laptop. Its unable to detect most virus' and in the last 6 months I have had to format my system 3 times. Its tedious & time consuming. Any suggestions guys on which other AV I could use?

Avast is really good. Do you update it regularly or if not possible then on periodically basis?

If you still looking for another option on Free AV Section, you can try Avira.

IMO, Avast is a very good AV Solution. Also make sure, you have updated OS, Browser to protect yourself. And, Be Self aware of what you download from Internet.

You can try Malwarebytes+MS Security Essentials combo or any other free anti virus such as Norton or Kaspersky. I personally use quick heal because they have good support when needed. However make sure your OS & browser is up-to-date no matter which AV you use.

Try Avira or AVG. Actually I am using Avast without problems. Also use ZoneAlarm or any other firewall.

For all general purposes, all the major antiviruses are more or less same. Like already mentioned in posts above, Avast is also pretty decent.
It really boils downs to common sense. No matter what anti-malware you use, if you are careless you may end up with another infection.
Anyway, keep your antivirus updated and stay away from shady websites etc. The safety precautions to be followed are strewn all over the internet. Give those a read and implement them.

quick heal?? ditch that.
try the trial versions of bitdefender ,kaspersky or eset and settle with one which you feel is good for your laptop. for the free versions stick to avast or avira.
