Hi,
In my office, we have about 20 systems of various age and specifications generally ranging from Sempron based processors. Among these, there is a 4-5year old PC with config of Athlon64 2800+ with Asus K8V-X motherboard (on VIA K8T800 chipset), 512 MB DDR1 400MHz RAM, 2x80 GB HDDs, DVD+CDRW combo drive.
Recently, the motherboard has failed. Replacement motherboard costs 3.5k. Should I just replace it (is the proccy sufficient) or should I consider a overhaul with X2 240 proccy, M2N68-AMPLUS mobo and 2 GB DDR2 RAM? Should I consider a separate purchase at a later date for a newer system

The computer is used for non-intensive stuff only like office work, etc

Thanks in advance,
Arun

I think the 2800+ is sufficient for office work. 512 MB RAM is also good, if on XP. For a slightly improved performance you could add another 512 MB stick which should cost around Rs. 1300 (DDR memory).

+1. an old Athlon64 + 1Gb ram enough to run XP + Word & other light apps. though 512Mb lag the system a bit if multiple apps are run same time.
