1) What is your budget?
Around 75K. Plus/minus 5K if its justifiable.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Brands are not of a concern

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Mainly word processing, giving presentations, watching HD videos and sometimes, basic video editing

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?
A hi-res screen would be preferred either glossy/matte.
The display should be bright and crisp.

6) Anything else you would like to say?
It's important that the notebook not be heavy. Has to be <2kgs.
The build quality should be very good. A battery life of around 6 hours or more is also desirable.
SSDs or hard disk, either would do.

I was looking at the options and the obvious contender is the MacBook Air which has an excellent build quality. The new one is priced around 80K, if I'm not wrong.
But with so many ultrabooks coming out, I'm sure that there are other options too.

Thanks for your help guys. Sorry if there are similar threads out there, I tried looking and didn't find any thread which matched my requirements.

Check these
SVS13A15GG : S Series : VAIO Laptop & Computer : Sony India
SVS15116GN : S Series : VAIO Laptop & Computer : Sony India

The later is a 15 incher but weighs 2 kg. (1.98kg to be precise)

Both are way more powerful than any ultrabook or Macbook Air. Also both have very good screens, the 15 incher has IPS panel.

And the price you see is only MRP. You will get them both for significantly lower price. SVS15 for around 76 and SVS13A for around 81.5

Battery life can be extended on the 15 incher upto 8 hours and on the 13 incher upto 10 hours with additional sheet battery which latches on to the bottom of the notebook.

Went to the market today and saw this laptop:

Sony Vaio SVS13118GN
Intel® Core™ i7-3520M Processor 2.90 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.60 GHz
Powerful discrete graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M LE 1 GB
13.3" with a resolution of WXGA: 1366 x 768
4 GB DDR3 RAM

With a weight of 1.72kgs.

Thoughts?

There is always a compromise to make.

With the Air yes you get a better display but also lose out on a lot of power.

With the S13 you gain a lot more power over the Air but need to compromise on screen quality.

The display of Macbook air is really impressive and also you get a good battery back up with good build quality and good performance too.And how can we forget that it has got nice looks too.So if you are comfortable with Mac OS then go for it.

And if you want a windows laptop then you can have a look at Sony VAIO S Series SVS13A15GN which costs around 83k or less or Sony VAIO S Series SVS13118GN which costs around 73k

Hey guys, thanks for the inputs.

Yeah, its true that a discreet gfx card isn't really a necessity.
So, as I gather, the MacBook Air, SVS13118GN and SVS13A15GN are the only options.
Any others?

^ Have you checked Samsung series 9 ?
I am not sure about the price but it is lighter and screen is also good.
And it is quite a looker.

Edit:
Just checked samsung website. It seems the range starts from 86k but may get little less at your local stores.

How come no one mentioned the HP Folio series selling at roughly 68k. 1.5kgs and 0.7inch thick and has an ethernet port and a claimed battery life of something like 7hrs. Looks good too. only the screen is 1366*768, but some people actually prefer it over FullHd (me included)

That has a ULV CPU and the weight isn't that much of a selling point as the Vaio S13 weighs the same and comes with full power i5/i7 and dedicated powerful GPU. Also S13 can achieve even 11 hours of battery life with sheet battery.
