i have a 3 year old dell sxps1645
i've been experiencing thermal shutdown while gaming on the system
i've used cooling pads. they generally work for a month or so and then start giving the same problem
so i started gaming while removing the back lid of the laptop for better air flow
the laptop worked without a hitch for 2-3 months but again started to shutdown due to overheating
is dust the culprit ?
or should i put on a new thermal solution as its quite old.
the average temp is around 55*C and gaming takes it to 88*C
im assuming shutdown occurs @94*C
please suggest a solution.
and yeah its out of warranty

yes. Dust is the culprit. Take it to a service centre and get it cleaned. Most laptops accumalate dust in huge proportions in the interior of lappy. So cleaning would definitely help.

seems like dust was the culprit
cleared the inner parts removed some ancient dust from the vents and fan around the heatsink
now max temp goes 65*C
