Looks like the court chose a weak one out of the 200 odd allocations to prosecute Manmohan.

The court has probably done Sonia Gandhi a favour by choosing the Hindalco case to accuse the former PM of showing undue favours. If this case falls through, the Congress will claim that there was no mala fide involved in the entire coal scam. The Hindalco case is unlikely to stand up to legal scrutiny. Reason: the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report talked about the opaque process of the Screening Committee, but in the Hindalco case, the Screening Committee’s decision was overturned and both the coal ministry and the PMO gave their own justifications for why the mine should be allotted to Hindalco.

At best, the court may find that it was a flawed decision, but mala fide will be difficult to establish as the PMO has already released all the files and letters relating to the decision. It has explained why it allotted the mine to Birla. No court can find an executive decision, arrived at after application of the mind, mala fide, unless there is proof of some hanky-panky – which the CBI did not find, and hence wanted to close the case.

now the NCP too has joined in the charade. in respone to a query by a journalist y'day, some congress spokesperson had said that "ofcourse we will protest against this legally."

may be the party and its cohorts are indirectly threatening MMS of a consequence not unlike the fate of the late Sitaram Kesari, or.....meanwhile, what happened to the national herald case?!

anyway, the 'honestly good person' that MMS is, who didn't engage in corruption, but didn't prevent his band to indulge in either, may be he is enjoying a genuine support from those grateful to him for that?!

she is implying that the central govt. 'influenced' the judiciary, while the CBI itself had filed a closure-report for the coal scam case, not once, but twice! if such a thing happens, expect furore in the parliament, and all of the 'secular' forces who have their share in getting their faces blackened from the coal-soot, they will join the party! there will be much propaganda over the net, esp. on quora, and people such as those who are more worried about pepsi selling over MRP in their mohalla or city, they will (readily) buy into it, and start bashing the govt. that "you are a bad, bad govt.; taking revenge? haw!; oh poor honest man Dr. Singh, we are with you; je sui MMS!"

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh felt abandoned when, ousted from office and facing a CBI probe, he was shunned by an official who reported to him and owed his very existence in the top office of the UPA government to him.

A key officer in Singh's PMO did not take his telephone calls when the former Prime Minister tried to contact him just before January 17 when CBI questioned him in connection with the decision to allocate the Talabira coal block to Hindalco. Sources said Singh wanted to brush up on developments leading to the allocation before his session with the CBI team. However, the officer did not come on line nor did he call back.

Sources said the curt cutting off by the former assistant may have sown doubts in Singh's mind that he might be left to fend for himself. In the wake of court summons, Congress managers have noted that a particular official in Singh's PMO has been particularly unfair to him. In his CBI testimony, the officer pinned down Singh as the final authority in the recommendations on coal blocks, mentioning that Singh closely went through the files sent by the then coal secretary.

The effect of those raids by CBI on various ministries to stop info leaking. As for Manmohan, he is personally corrupt, the corrupt part being he is a nepotist.

His daughter is a visiting professor in Nalanda University and his daughter's friend from Delhi University went from being a mere reader to Vice-Chancellor of an international university under Amartya Sen's chancellorship (Even Kalam ji mentioned his misgivings about sen and his leadership).

Corruption is not always about money. It can be about power or greed for sinecure for example. Currently he is comfortably sinecured in Lutyens Delhi enjoying well manicured lawns.

When you're a leader, your personal traits are not as important as your leadership skills.

MMS was in a leadership role. He could not lead. As in the example of a management position, the leader takes responsibility for the failure of the team, their venality and their greed. It is entirely irrelevant if the leader himself never as much as padded a single expense report - he failed in his responsibility and naturally takes the blame for his failure to effectively lead.
