Tell me about Wi-Fi

My hostel is about to become a wifi hotspot(Panjab university,CHD). I learnt the basic principle from wikipedia but here are the things i want to know:
1. I have a 915 mobo with LAN card. I guess i will have to buy a WLAN card for this. How much will be the approximate cost?
2. What will be the running cost? Will i have to pay to some ISP or something?
3. What will the bandwidth and speed be like? Will it be better than the 256Kbps dataone connections?

If your hostel has powerful wifi then you will need to buy a WiFi NIC and thats cost around 1K-1.5K .
Speed is good depending upon your WIFI provider..ie . think of Wifi as 11mbps or sometimes 54 mbps local LAN but you will get internet speed of what you pay for !!
