CUDDALORE: Three people, including a 19-year-old, were on Saturday arrested for trying to run a fake State Bank of India branch at Cuddalore district. The 19-year-old, the brain behind the move, decided to take things into his own hands after he failed to land his dream job at the bank.
The three were identified by cops as S Kamal Babu, 19, A Kumar, 42, who printed counterfeit withdrawal and deposit slips, and M Manickam, 52, who made rubber stamps.
The arrests came after SBI Panruti branch manager Venkatesan lodged a complaint on the ‘functioning’ of a fake ‘North Bazaar branch of SBI’ at the teenager’s house. Probes revealed that Kamal Babu’s parents were retired SBI employees and he used to frequent the bank branches where his parents worked.
His attempts to get a job in the bank on compassionate grounds after his father’s death in 2007 turned futile as he was a minor then. His mother, too, was in service in the SBI.
Panruti police station inspector Ambedkar said the teen claimed to have sent an email to the SBI headquarters pleading for a job on compassionate grounds and the bank rejected it, citing he was a minor. Ambedkar said he sent another email after he completed 18 years but did not get any response from the bank. It was then that he decided to realise his dream of working in a bank by setting up a fake SBI branch at his house. He printed counterfeit withdrawal and deposit challans and made counterfeit rubber stamps.
The three were produced before a magistrate, who granted them bail. SBI preferred not to comment on the incident. An SBI spokesperson said the bank does not have any power or authority to police or monitor such incidents, and has nothing to do with such fraudsters.

Age 19, Age 42 and Age 52. I can give the teenager a pass, but what were the other two thinking!

They call this country incredible India for a reason!

Jokes apart its rather worrying to think how the youth of today are increasingly becoming morally bankrupt. Scamming is an integral part of this country's culture, even though most of us wouldn't acknowledge it.

Won’t be surprised if there are more like these because it’s a reality that typical Urban populace don’t know what goes in the remotest of places.

nothing new. some 30 years back, one of the employees of a bank opened an office in front of the bank branch having similar type of name on the board. he started sending people to that office where he was running a complete bank. everyone was earning there for quite some time. then people who took loans from them started defaulting as these were unemployed youth who couldn't run whatever business they tried. due to shortage of money, fake office was unable to pay when someone came to withdraw money from his account. then it got busted.
