tablet for parents under 15k

Hi guys I read the stickied tab guide post as well as other tablet buying advice related posts but wasn't able to really come to any conclusion. Having never used or bought a tablet I am sceptic about purchasing one for my parents.
I need a tablet (preferably 7.9 or more) for my parents. The basic use will be video calling and light weight multimedia use(YouTube etc) can even forego the sim slot for normal calls. Parents are not really much into tech so was advised to buy iPad mini 1st gen 16gb wifi which is in the range and is easy for layman use. Plus i find the squared shape(4:3 ratio thingie) is the best for them...for reading and general visibility reasons...(would be glad to know I am wrong with this perception). But have read about how restrictive apple ios can be with no usb and extendable memories etc. Would 16gb suffice for the use I have stated? Plus is it built wise ok..saw some videos on how quickly iPad mini dismantled with drop tests etc..are the covers good enough and sturdy enough for using iPad mini.
Is there any other tablet that is up there in the ease of access department as iPad mini? I have my doubt about xiaomi mi pad plus its availability and lack of patience for nokia n1. Are there any other options in this range that are easy to use for parents?

I would recommend the iPad, 16 GB is good enough for them i suppose. It's the ease of use that would matter. And iPad takes brilliant photos and videos.

I wouldn't agree more on this. I maybe wrong but iPad maybe much easier and smoother than other tablets out there.

i don't have any experience with any of the tabs mentioned here (but would like to lean over the suggestion of ipad), so will quote what i recently read for a tab-purchase query on another forum:

- dell venue 8 pro (demo units being sold as 'refurbished' after cleaning them up, as per the sellers' description, on ebay, for 11.9k)

-
If you are looking for a 10 incher in Android, Digiflip Pro XT901 (from Flipkart) is a good option. Been using the same for a couple of months now. Battery life is fantastic with WiFi/Sync off (don't need much on the tablet). Full HD screen. Good brightness. Loud speakers. Good build quality. A tad thick, yeah. 12k. Excellent VFM. My primary use is light gaming (Monument Valley etc.), novel and comic reading.

for an 8" tab, go for MiPad. Tegra K1!

i don't think you would like to give a used tab to your parents, else could've suggested sourcing a used HP omni. one got sold recently for 14k on another forum. its a windows tab, and has got good feedback. but nevermind.

still, over all these, i would like to personally suggest the ipad for the specific purposes and usage mentioned.

@op : get the ipad bruhhh.. It has Facetime inbuilt, and is Skype compatible too. And iOS is very suitable for elderlies...

Hi
Thanks for the suggestion. Can you also talk about the sturdiness or the lack of it for the iPad mini. I haven't used any tablet. So just wanted to know if there are covers that are protective enough for the tablet. Personal experience would be great here. Thanks.

Guys I am getting an iPad mini at a reasonable price at paytm. But there is no mention of warranty on the site. Is it trustable enough?

Did any of you even read the question. OP had a question regarding warranty.
And OP you shouldn't buy expensive item from paytm. Certainly not recommended. Get mi pad instead.

I would say that you better get a Xiaomi Mi Pad & save money. Mi Pad has a bit of heating issues, but thats mainly while gaming or too long(which i don't suppose your parents will do). It has a great display & performance is too good for a 13k tablet

iOS has some disadvantages over android like:
- iTunes must for transferring files via PC (itunes itself is a head ache software)
- No bluetooth file transfer
- No customizations
- You can't just download a song in your ipad & listen to it (something which annoys my friend with his iPad)

Yaa I own an iPad mini, and these very things annoy me the most. Otherwise its good for casual usage (browsing/youtube etc). Good thing about it is the user-friendliness, got only one button below the screen, hence less learning curve.

For all other things Mi Pad is the better option.

Hi thanks for the suggestion. Can you tell me if mipad would be durable and sturdy enough? The Chinese tag kind of puts one off...
