Tablet for movies/light games/reading <10K

Hi All!

1. Budget? <10k (strict budget, can only extend by 2K if that makes it "perfect")

2. Display type and size?
Type
Best suited for movies/videos/light reading
FULL HD would be best fit.
HD with "good" screen - would be okay
(i.e. nice PPI, bright screen, good viewing angles)

Size
8" - Good
9" - Nice :)
10" - Would be awesome (possible?)

3. Preferred choice of brand?
No preference as such.

4. Preferred operating system?
Android/Windows either should be okay.

5. Preferred connectivity options -
wifi - needed
3G - good to have

6. Primary use of tablet ?
(Tablet would be used fairly extensively - like 5-6 hours or even more, per day)

Usage split

50% -- Movies +YouTube + surfing web
40% -- Light gaming only - poker/puzzles/crossword.
10% -- Reading

This is going to be used at home. Do not worry much about portability.

7. Any specific tablets in consideration?
Digiflip pro XT901 - fits most requirements & well in budget ++ Full HD, 9"
Micromax P680 - fits most requirements but is 8" & not Full HD

And, I also saw quite a few iball slides, Windows budget tablets & then got confused!

8. Any other info that you want to share?

Good battery backup would be good to have too. (Video playback of 5-6 hours on single charge)

Feel free to ask if I have missed something!

Ace.

Mi Pad is good for you
It lacks 3G, but has a great display, great performance, good battery life(~ 9 hr).... Overall great buy at 12k

Guys,

Thanks a lot for pouring in! :)

If forgot to mention - I did check Mi Pad reviews.
Especially like the rich screen resolution!

BUTTT, it's 4:3 ratio screen!!
Which means, even with 8" screen, the videos/YT is all with black bars!!! :-x

Isn't that a big-whoop?
No 3G is okay, but that screen ratio puts me off.
Not to mention - it extends the budget by 3K while not making it perfect either.

Let me consider that as plan C.

More suggestions please.

I agree on the aspect ratio thing. 4:3 is good for reading ebooks, maybe (Ask Apple why they decided on that? Xiaomi simply copied )

Still I think Mi Pad is the best tablet under 20k, if no 3G isn't a issue

Your Plans A and B are crap.

A for being Digiflip
B for having mediatek SoC and 800p screen.

Else consider Asus Fonepad or Nexus 9 (if it came with much discount), or Nexus 7.

Nexus 9 also has a 4:3 aspect ratio...
Wait for the Asus zenpad...it is releasing in India on 9th October.

Please go through requirement, buddy!
Priority 1 is good screen for video/movies
Priority 2 is playing *extremely* light games like Card games, puzzles, crosswords.

If you generalize based on being "Digiflip", that does not mean much to me!
Now, if you have seen/heard that the screen on that one is 'bad' or it's laggy - then that's good reasoning.

I am not a fanboy & am pretty much neutral brand-wise.

Yes, quite a few tabs have 4:3.
But like I explained, that kinda "reduces" the video experiences fairly, only hence, I am withholding that as Plan C or Option 3.
Option 1 & 2 could be Android / Windows tablets.

I will definitely have a look at the Zenpad.

Thanks much,

Ace.

Thank you all, for the suggestions - guys.

I had Mipad on my wishlist.
Only factors against it were - 4:3 aspect ratio (slightly smaller video experience as compared to other 8" tabs) & being well above my budget @12999 INR :p

Now, with Amazon offer, I get it at 9999 INR (and 1500 INR cash back by Jan 2016).
With that, it's well under my budget & I can overlook the aspect ratio in this case.

On the bright side, (like you guys have said already), it's a very good screen (retina-kind-display) & decent battery life.

So, for my requirements- this now fits the bill.

Will post some impressions here after a week of use, in case, someone intends to check it for similar use.

Cheers,

Ace.

Hey, thank you for the suggestion!
I had looked at it before.
I did check out the review videos again after your suggestion.

I am only slightly wary about the longevity of iball tablets.
Still, if it was a FHD display, I would have put this in my list to watch.

Thanks for the inputs, though!

Cheers!

Thumbs Up!!! buddy, for this purchase of MiPad.
With eyes closed it is the best buy from amazon, that too within your budget.:-D:wink:

If possible, puchase(during later period also) a wireless mobile wifi router that consist of a sim slot, prefarably from D-link or Tp-Link from any online/offline shop of your choice and budget. That will make a "made for each other" for the XIAOMI Mi-Pad Tablet on the go(while travelling).
