Display- Bigger the better
Camera - should have a decent camera
OS - Android would be preferred but any OS will do.
Primary usage - Whatsapp, internet surfing.
Storage - Should support MicroSD card or have big internal memory.



also IDK if all tablet support whatsapp so some info on that would be good

Do you need GSM capabilities? Like voice calling and/or 2g/3g internet? Or is wifi enough?

yeah
basically you just need a basic phone with a sim which can receive SMS's
you download whatsapp apk from the site itself and install on the tab
then you open it and type the number which you want on whatsapp
itll try activating and itll fail, then itll give a call/sms option after 5 mins(dont close whatsapp at all during this)
after 5 mins , youll recieve a call/sms on the basic phone
type the code provided in call/sms into whatsapp on your tab

Voila! you have whatsapp on your wifi-only android tab

this is tried and tested with my business tablets and ipads itself
feel free to ask more questions :)

About gsm tablets, id advice against it because it generally has loads of issues in general as well as when you want to root/change roms etc and complicates the process
Plus having 2 3G packs is expensive and limited,wifi works out cheaper and better
hotspot is more convenient and cheaper

Best thing is to buy a wifi only tab and use hotspot from your phone
if battery life during hotspot is a worry, just buy a Mi Powerbank :)
I do the same thing for my iPad

Nokia N1 might come to India soon
however dont be fooled by the Nokia name,its a completely different company now and the people that made Nokia the reliable brand it was are now part of Microsoft
another tablet to consider is the HP Stream 8

It runs FULL Windows 8.1, same as desktop/laptop etc

no i am not gonna compromise on the main usage of tab so no Win 8.1.

its OK at best
frankly these companies(Lenovo,Dell) are better off making their line up of windows tabs
they barely pay attention to their android tabs and dont release source etc,making them really poor purchases despite the obvious bells and whistles

for android tabs in that range- Asus Fonepad,Nexus 7,Mipad,Nokia N1 are the most stable and well made
avoid any other tab imho

just see reviews etc for a better idea

^^ For SD card slot yes,overall iPad is a better experience with gestures etc
also I should mention, to use whatsapp on iPad, you need to jailbreak
Jailbreaking doesnt void warranty or cause damage etc

Its upto the OP now to decide based on his preferences

After reading reviews i am bit worried about Mi Pad heating problems, any idea if there is any heating during normal usage?
Nokia N1 seems good but it is still not available in India

tegra devices such as Mipad,Nexus and Nokia N1 are prone to heat up
dunno much regarding this though

avoid at all costs
I also fell for Lenovo as a gift for my mom before
their rom is poor
no dev support and lags like crazy thanks to poor optimisation and bloat
rather buy a cheap phone with a large screen such as Lumia 535 or 640 or something AND a tablet such as Mipad/iPad mini or something

voice calling on a tablet is a PITA trust me
buy a phone + tablet instead

If you really want a tab with calling anyway, get Asus Fonepad
its screen is not great though and Id still suggest getting something like Lumia + iPad mini/ Mipad instead

I too dont have good experiences with android tabs(Galaxy tab 2) myself, pales in front of an ipad.

But the MiPad should be better, since the UX of MIUI is usually better than lenovo's.

L640/MiPad should be a good combo.


Btw, why dont u consider phablets 5.5 - 6" size? U get both there calling, big screen. Portability/ergonomics are also a plus with them.
