This is for my friend who will be working mostly on CAD software (mechanical).

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: ProE/ Solid Works/ IDEAS

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: INR 30,000 Max

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 Prof (64bit)

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500 GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: 22" - One with a vertical resolution of 1080. Looking at Samsung LS22B370H

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Speakers/ UPS

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Before 10-Oct-2012

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Built many

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Chennai

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Nothing fancy is required. A Basic cabin is more than enough. All importance is for designing/rendering. Inclined towards an AMD build.

Thank you.

Intel i3 2100 - 6500
Corsair value RAM(1333MHz)4GB - 1200
Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2H - 3200
WD Caviar blue 500GB - 3700
Corsair VS450 - 2100 or Corsair CX430V2 - 2500
Asus DRW-24B5ST - 1000
CM elite 310 - 1700
Samsung LS22B370H - 8900
HD6770 GDDR5 - 6200 or AMD HD 7750 ~7k

The config exceeds your budget. If you can extend your budget a bit more then look for firepro v4800 for around 9.5k which would be much faster in PRO/Engineer and Solidworks.

^^ Thanks vkl. Was away for a while. So can't reply immediately. As I said, I can go for AMD combination to make up for the Firepro, this has to wait though.

This is the config I have chalked up so far:

AMD A6 - 3500 - 4100
Asus M4A88T M LE - 3800
Corsair value RAM(1333MHz) 2x4GB - 2200
WD Caviar blue 500GB - 3700
Corsair CX430V2 - 2500
Optical Drive - 1000
CM Elite 310 - 1700
Samsung LS22B370H - 8900

~28k

Later: AMD FirePro v4800 - 9500 (Total ~37.5k)

^^If you want to go for an APU the try getting A6 3650 for around 5-5.5k.It would be worth it.
If you can wait then you can go for trinity processors as well.
The IGP of APU would provide assistance in the mentioned workloads until you get a discrete graphic card.

Thanks vkl. I am not going purchasing to purchase the graphic card in the next two months. So, as you said, it would be wise spending a bit extra for A6-3650.
