The process to kill is 4014 in this list. gdm stands for gnome desktop manager

1. Open konsole
2. Type su and become root user like you did earlier
3. Type at prompt
ps -U root
and press enter
4. Now look for the process named gdm and note its pid (process id). (In the list you gave it is 4014 but this changes when you reboot the OS.)
5. type the command at prompt as follows
kill pid
where pid is the process id of gdm

For example, if the process id of gdm is now 4568, the command you will type at root shell prompt will be
kill 4568

6. After this press ctrl+D twice.
7. Problem solved

GDM's got nothing to do here. I've used gdm lots of time as my display manager to log in to KDE or some WM without any problem.
cyborg Try
Code:
ps -A | grep gnome
And if you can show a screenshot, it would help me understand better maybe.

Visit *en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories
and add the following YUM repoitories to YaST installation sources.
1. Packman (for kaffeine, mplayer, libxine, w32codecs, DeVeDe, AviDemux)
2. Guru (for Amarok, GIMP)
3. Octupus (for Azureus)

These are some of the packages I use.

After successfully adding, open software management, and update amarok and whatever else you want
