Sound playing only in games

i have a realtek HD audio manager and an asus mobo.
when the sys had come there was no prob. then sound completely stopped playing and now sound plays but only in games.
pls help me out. i tried updating the drivers but there are none available.

Instead of updating, uninstall and reinstall. That should work. Else, there is always System Restore

why not use DXDIAG's troubleshooter?

Start Run mmsys.cpl
Audio tab, change some settings here n there, it should work...

My friend faces similar problem regularly...
Sometimes it is just solved automatically, and sometimes he has to do some of this and that to get it working...
