This is an Avast7 Bug: Ok, here is the Post that explains the Bug, its online file reputation service cannot be disabled even if unchecked from options, it keeps querying the server to find the rating of files: *forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94618.0

Issue fixed with latest Beta of avast: avast! 7 R2 beta

First let me draw your attention: Anyone who solves this gets a surprise gift from me, let the bounty hunt begin. :greedy: :greedy:

Now that I have your attention,

Guys, I am using Windows 7 x64 on a pretty fast machine as you can see from my sig and suffering from a very weird problem, this problem appears only on a fresh install of Win 7, it was fine on my previous install of the same win 7 x64(which was around 8 months old), let me explain.

I am connected to the internet via a modem(BSNL Connection), but I have to dial a connection using PPPOE dialler(that comes with windows), now when the modem is switched on but the connection is not established there is a significant delay in launching any application after opening them from explorer(double click, or open from start menu, or context menu). There is no hard disk activity during this delay. On further investigation I found that two windows process, System and svchost are trying to connect to internet during this time, the application is launched after they either get a confirmation or a request timeout.

System process is Listening on multiple ports while svchost is attempting to ping my dns servers. And applications will only launch if it fails or succeeds, if the internet is connected then it works fine(as it gets a response), or if I disconnect the LAN cable then it also works as system detects no connection and does not attempt to ping any servers.

However if the LAN cable is connected but no connection established then all goes to hell, the internet request takes some time to register a timeout and during that time nothing happens. I have seen this kind of behavior in games as they try to connect to internet(for multiplayer) but that did not bother me much, but this issue is turning me mad, once launched apps run absolutely fine.

Happens with everything, contest menu clicks, app launch, everything.

This problem also effects start up program launch, when lan is disconnected, all start up programs launch in minutes, if its connected but no internet connection then it take nearly 5 minutes or more for all the start up programs to launch, this issue is plaguing every application. I can't seem to figure the problem out.

My Software Config:

Win 7 x64 SP1(updated)

Avast 7 Antivirus.

Comodo Firewall V5.9(only firewall, no defense+) -> I believe this is the culprit

Also running on Startup:

C:\Program Files\Lucidlogix Technologies\VIRTU\VirtuControlPanel.Exe /hide ->Lucid Virtu
C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA\RAVCpl64.exe -s ->Realtek Soundcard Driver
C:\Windows\system32\igfxpers.exe ->Intel Graphics
C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\LCore.exe /minimized ->Logitech software for Keyboard
C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe ->Intel Graphics
C:\Windows\system32\hkcmd.exe ->Intel Graphics
C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPointP\SetPoint.exe /launchGaming ->Logitech Software for Mouse
C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cfp.exe" -h ->Comodo Firewall
C:\Windows\syswow64\RunDll32.exe C:\Windows\Syswow64\cm108.dll,CMICtrlWnd ->Siberia Soundcard Driver
C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\avastUI.exe" /nogui ->Avast
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bluetooth Suite\BtvStack.exe" ->Bluetooth software for onboard Bluetooth Chip
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bluetooth Suite\AthBtTray.exe" ->^^Same

I need urgent help, this problem was not present in earlier installation having same config and same softwares installed as it is now.

I can help with Windows logs, hijack this logs, list of services etc, I am desperate :cry:

As I have installed windows multiple times, reinstalling windows is not an option for me, suggest anything else.

did you change MTU settings?
also, you are using BOTH a firewall and an AV?
try disabling one or both.

Try rebooting from "safe mode with networking" and see if the problem persists. If it does get fixed, one of your applications in startup is causing this error. Pinpoint it with hit and trial.

Ok, I've pinpointed it to Avast, if I disable all the shields, it works ok, apps launch superfast, shields enabled and it goes haywire, problem is not comodo, now only thing remains is to identify which shield?

This new Avast 7 is cr@p as hell, already its web shield allows connections to bypass Win 7 firewall and Comodo firewall(it accepts all outbound requests and routes it through own service AvastSvc), apparently the web shield is not the culprit, or I may have to perform extended tests.

Anyone using Avast 7 and notice app launch delay i similar condition?

Use Microsoft security essentials. That's all you need.

How good is MSE? I frequent some disturbed websites(read warez), need protection.
Unless you're new to the internet, you should be fine ["You are our 100,000th visitor. Click to see your prize."]. Just google for some reviews.

Speaking of warez, you should know how to download them.

Nah, despite downloading lotsa stuffz I had never been infected, I just have to verify some files that I find suspicious(keygens), I'll google for some reviews.

say goodbye to avast and use avira antivir free edition or else get Kaspersky / NAV - using this one now ;-)

Hey, tkin, if you have Comodo installed then why not let it take control of your system security? Get rid of Avast.

I've been using Comodo since I got my PC and it has NEVER EVER been infected (partly thanking my ingenuity as well).

Hope this helps. GL. :)

Doesn't avira nag a lot? Also paying for AV, big no no.

@tkin: u have found the culprit as avast then y not remove it...

:+1: for avira

avast is getting worst in competition now :|
I am sort of fond of avast, I can navigate the UI blindly, plus it serves me ok, I just filed a bug report in avast website, lets see if they respond, mean time thinking of MSE?

I doubt comodo AV, too many false positives(tested personally), compared to avast.

Using Avast along with Outpost Firewall and Emsisoft Antimalware (full version) for a long time without any problem in my 2nd PC. Upgraded staright to v7.0.1407 from v6 so can't tell whether there was any problem in the earlier v7 release.
