1.) Right-click in Firefox and select "Show/Hide Smiley Xtra Sidebar"
2.) Now click on the Official face icon of Smiley Xtra in sidebar (The last icon in the toolbar).
3.) Now select Options from the menu.
4.) Click on "Update Smiley Database Now".
5.) You can also enable Automatic Updating database option for future

I found some files like, smiley.smx, smxcat6.smx, etc in following directory:

%userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profile_name.default

So I think these files contain the actual URLs of the smiles. U can take backup of these files for future use, may be it works?
