1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Simple office work like making documents, presentations, playing High Definition media content and downloading.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
25K max. Can be extended to 27K under exceptional circumstances.

3. Planning to overclock?
I don't know any bit of it, so NO.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Windows 7 64-bit.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Atleast 500 GB. The more the merrier.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Yes
Screen size must be more than 22 inches and 1920X1080 resolution. If such monitor cannot fit in the budget then it can be extended to accommodate the monitor.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Within a week.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Have no experience in this matter. Will certainly be built by an assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Lucknow. I am open to buy stuff online but I would prefer local shopping.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
I don't have any experience in building a desktop and I am total n00b in this matter. I have no idea about which motherboard is compatible with which processor, or whether to go for Intel or AMD or other such basic stuffs. So please suggest as such.
One more thing- PC won't be used for any kind of gaming but will be used to play HD-content. So an entry level graphic card might be needed right?

^^ Nice config.

utkarsh73, if you're not into gaming then can omit the Graphics card for now and get 4GB 1333 MHz single module from Corsair @ 1.2K. The IGP HD 2000 of G620 can play HD media content without any issues.

Will it deliver similar/better performance to the configuration suggested in the first post?

Yes, the config you have chosen is fine. It might even outperform the config suggested by me. The IGP of AMD A6-3500 will let you easily watch HD content. Your call, go for any one of them.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking forward to a few more confirmation or any other option if possible.
I decided this config randomly by just browsing flipkart.com so please verify that all the components are compatible with each other or not.

How about the upgradability options available with this motherboard. Can I upgrade the processor to higher-end bulldozer CPUs or will the motherboard hold only the APUs??

Sainatarajan

Wise Old Owl
The Mobo will Hold only the APU . I think this year AMD are gonna change their socket . So there is no upgrade options. IF you go with G620 you can put I7 also when you want.

RiGOD

@OP : Go for G620 + P8H61-M LX combo. If you can push a bit more get the i3-2100/2120. The IGP of the same is more than enough for HD Playback.

utkarsh73, go with G620 and H61 combo instead of AMD APU for now as suggested by RiGOD and Sainatarajan as current AMD 3000 series APU has no upgrade option whereas H61 motherboard can have higher end processor support.

If I go with G620 and H61 combo then will I need a graphic card??
Let me re-emphasize that this PC will not be used for gaming. Only for HD media playback. The worst it would be subjected to would be some older games of 2006-07 release.

Cilus

laborare est orare
For HD playback you won't need any card and the IGP HD 2000 is well enough. 2006 games are playable but 2007 does have some of the toughest games like Crysis. But they might be playable with the lower setting.

Thanks for the reply. Now this is the config:

Asus P8H61M-LX @ 3.2k
Intel Pentium G620 @ 3.4k
Corsair 4 GB DDR3 1333 Mhz @ 1.3k
WD Caviar Blue SATA II 1 TB @ 5.3k
Cooler Master Elite 310 @ 1.8k
APC 600 VA @ 1.5k - 2k
Benq G2222HDL @ 7.7k
Corsair CX430V2 @ 2.5k
ODD @ 1K

Total=27.3K

Now I am almost finalizing this configuration, but a bit confused. One of my friends suggested me to go for core i3 2120. Will it justify to spent 3.5K more and get Core i3 2120??

RiGOD

SoLa BeLLaToR...
^^G620 is more than enough for HD content playback. But if you plan to upgrade it to a casual gaming RiG by adding a GPU later then going for i3-2120 is recommended.

Which one is better?? Also I have reduced the storage to 500 GB.

dont go for this.....I have assembled a similar config 2 days ago and still trying to start it !!!

AMD A6 3500 APU @ 4.1K (3950/-)
Gigabyte A55M-DS2 @ 3.5K (3050/-)
WD Caviar Blue 500 GB @ 4.1K (3800/-)
GSkill 4 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz @ 1.2K (1700/-)
Cooler Master Elite 310 @ 1.9K (1650/-)
BenQ G2222HDL @ 7.9K (Dell IN2030 - 5850/-)
Corsair CX430V2 @ 2.3K (Corsair VS450- 2050/-)
APC 600VA UPS @ 2K (Intex 600 VA - 1250/-)

you can save some using another UPS of 600 VA (for about 1200/- APC is no real good compared to others.... I am using it on another system for more than 3 yrs) and SMPS Corsair VS450 (2050/-) its more than enough for the config.
