DRAM Refresh Failure : How to solve ?

Hi,
This is my first post here.. :p

I am having following config
Intel C2D E6550
Gigabyte G41-Combo
Corsair 4GB DDR3 1600MHz
Corsair VX450w
XFX 8800GT 512MB
Monitor with resolution 1440*900

This week i tried playing Call of Duty : Black Ops on this machine. It was lagging like hell (17-18 FPS) @ 1024*768 with 4xAA.
At 1440*900 and No AA i got ~22 FPS and still it was lagging.

On googling i found that requirements for COD : Black Ops are;
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 or better
VGA:Shader 3.0 or better 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600GT / ATI Radeon® X1950Pro or better

According to which my CPU is at fault.

Now can i expect my GFX to run for another 1 & half year ? (GFX card able to run new games for another 18 months)
If yes should i go for new Proccy and Mobo ?
If yes which one ? My max budget is 10-12K.

Note: I cant overclock my current config. I also have a laptop HP-DV6-3057TX (Core i3 @2.4GHz|4GB DDR3 RAM|ATI Mobility Raedon 5650 1GB GFX).

problem with game. yes your processor is weak but should run fine. search about black ops lag fix in google. AFAIK, no patch released to fix this problem.

Buddy I had much more powerful system than yours.... Its not a fault with your Processor... You have a pretty good system...

Even in my system Black ops was giving lot of problem... The game has some problem....it was not made well like other COD games...

You don't need to change the proccy

@OP
Suppose you sell your existing procy+mobo+gpu you can get 5k more. Add that to your current budget you will have 17k

So then do this, if you are interested in gaming get a good GPU. For your resolution HD6770 is good but to be future-proof for next year get atleast HD 6850.
Sapphire HD6850 @ 9.35k
remaining 7.65k
you can get,
Athlon II X4 635 @ 4k
MSI 880GM-E35 @ 3.4k
for 7.4k

If you can afford a little more get the Phenom II 955BE for 5.5k

--EDIT--
your existing CPU is not bad, if you can overclock it then it shouldnt be a huge bottleneck for your current card. But for a card like HD6850 it will be, so upgrading cpu+mobo will be better. Also you are not open to overclocking, so better to upgrade all 3

^^ no need to sell off entire system. cpu + gpu upgrade should be enough. look out for used E8*00 + new HD6850. total should be 12-13k & its enough for OP. but if possible, check for used Q9*50. upgrade in stage if your budget does't allow both upgrade at the same time.

I agree...though. Go for a used E8*00 or Q9*50 only if you get one cheap (less than 4k). Cause the LGA 775 platform is dead and its no use pushing on a older platform when a newer one is available for a little more. BTW both E8*00 or Q9*50 offer gaming performance similar to the Athlon II x4

Thanks for your inputs friends.

1) I was thinking my GPU is still powerfull enough for another year or so. was/am i correct ?
2) I want to overclock but my current mobo is very very crap . My current FSB is 333MHz and Multiplier is 7 hence 2.33Ghz. But this mobo wont let me boot with 344MHz and hence stuck at 343MHz @ 2.4GHz.
3) Also i have Kingston 2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM. If i need to sell my system i can sell CPU + Mobo + RAM. (Thinking GPU can serve me for another year) Can i expect 5K for (CPU + Mobo + RAM) ?

For Cabinet I am thinking to buy NZXT Gamma with separate 2K budget.

Do let in your suggestion

1)No not really, its as good as a HD5670 and consumes much more power. I dont think it will suffice for high quality gaming. You will have to lower settings and games will keep getting more and more demanding.
Check this
Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart : Best Graphics Cards For The Money: November 2011

2)Even more reason to get a new mobo+CPU. Also the athlons and phenoms overclock very nicely and with a HSF you can push them even further

3)Yes you can get that much if you get a good deal.

If your priority is gaming, change your GPU. The NZXT Gamma cabinet is a very good choice. But if you can reuse your current cabby then invest the money in core components.

5k for those 3 items will be hard. 3.5k being the upper limit for me.

so OP got 2 option:
1. used proccy + new gpu
2. new platform powered by Phenom II X4 or Core i3 2*00 but then again OC is possible on AMD.

If your priority is gaming, change your GPU. The NZXT Gamma cabinet is a very good choice. But if you can reuse your current cabby then invest the money in core components.

Thats a nice comparison chart guru_urug.
1)According to it my Laptop's HD5650 is also not a much kind of future proof for one mroe year, correct ?
2) Finally also i need to accept that 8800GT will not be handling 1440*900 resolution in newer games.
3)I have Sunbeam CCF92mm Cooler too but i guess it will not be compatible with AM3 or LGA1155 socket. ?

If answers to all above questions is Yes, its a upgrade time then.
List of things to sell of then, for now, is
Intel C2D E6550 with Sunbeam CCF92mm cooler
Gigabyte G41-Combo
Kingston 2 x 1GB DDR2 800MHz
with this i am expecting if i can get 5/5.5K. If adding my GPU to list, it can fetch 2K more, so max 7.5K

I would like to then hold on with 8800GT for a while and just get upgraded CPU+Mobo. GPU upgrade may be after 6-8 months. Also my PSU (Corsair VX450) needs to be considered when i am going for a new GPU.

Please correct if there are any flows in this thinking.
Thanks..!!

Actually getting 5k is tough for that. See if you can get a good deal. I recently sold my 14 month old 9800GT(low power) on quikr for 3.5k . My 3 year old pentium D 930 went for 1k.
It depends on your luck.

Also if you want you can utilise your 8800GT as a physx card, when you get your new GPU later but then yes you will have to also get a new PSU ;)

But rather retain the PSU. Its a good one. A single HD 6850 will run without problems on it. And by the time you buy, the new gen GPUS will be out and they will have even lower consumption. Physx is not very imp criteria anyway

Update
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 @ 1440*900-4xAA-High settings -->> 35-40 FPS Requirement Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or better/Shader 3.0 or better 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT/ATI Radeon X1950 or better

NFS Hot Pursuit @ 1440*900-High settings -->>30 FPS
Requirement 1.8GHz C2D/256 MB DirectX® 9.0 compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher(minimum)/(8800GT Recommended)

This games running are running like charm where system requirements are within limits. But when it comes to NFS Run which requires 3GHz C2D, game refuses to run.

Hence i guess right now my Proccy + Mobo needs an upgrade.
Suggest combos for max 12-13K

I guess you can go with this config if you can stretch a little
Intel DH67VR @ 4.6k
Core i5 2300 2.8GHz @ 9k

total:13.6

Constructed New Rig..!!
Hello,
I have find a buyer for my system (CPU, Mobo and DDR2 RAM) for 3.8K.
Now i m planning to wait for Ivy Bridge and AMD 7000 Series GPU.
Till then for GPU will use current and for CPU and Mobo i am finding a used combo for around 6.5-7K.
Where else i can find used combo, except 'Bazar' ?

Thanks.
