Should blogs be submitted to google for indexing?

I am new to blogs, I registed myself for blog at google's blogspot.com.

I also own a website. I have posted some contents on my blog and given a external link to my website for further information. This way I am providing external link to my website and hope that this will improve page ranking of my website. Is this legal or acceptable?

Secondly, do I have to submit the url of my blog to google to index it in its search engine or will google search engine automatically index all the blogs hosted by it?

Google will index all the blogs automatically.But people need to visit your site for it to fare highly in google ranks.You can try this though:

If you are using blogspot.com, then indexing will be VERY fast. I recently had updated by blog and saw it it was indexed within 1 hour.

Forgot to mention, my wordpress blog hosted on another domain was also indexed in the next 1 hour!
