  • Description:

This is basically a Pogoplug / Dockstar / GoFlex Net and can be used as a low cost download box, NAS, media server, etc etc. It has one SATA port which can be used to connect a 3.5" or 2.5" bare drive or a GoFlex Desktop drive. You can also connect it to a multi-bay eSata enclosure too, it supports the Port Multiplier function.

Average power consumption with a 2.5" USB drive is about 5-8 w only.

The OS and Apps will be installed on a USB drive and will need to be connected at all times, so a USB hub is required (not included in the sale).
A brand new 8 GB PNY / Trek pendrive is included in the above price.

What can you do with this?

Well, its basically a mini computer running a full linux OS, you can install and run pretty much anything. You can use it to download torrents, http files, it works as NAS, you can configure it as a print server, 3G gateway etc etc.

You will need a basic understanding of linux commands and will need to use the command line. Most of the functions can be done through the Web UI.

What will be installed?

Transmission - For downloading torrents
Pyload - For downloading http files
Samba - For file sharing with windows clients
Webmin - For managing the device

There are two options

1. The factory configuration, ie it will work as a NAS and as described here You can see the interface and UI images here

In this mode, there won't be a torrent client or download managers. And you can't install new programs etc.

2. Another option is to replace the factory configuration with a full linux OS, Debian in this case. The softwares mentioned in the first post will be installed and you can install other packages like would do on a normal linux system. The OS etc will reside on the USB drive and has to be connected at all times.

There will not be a complete UI in this case. But torrent client will have its on Web Interface, http downloader PyLoad has its on interface etc. Webmin, another package for administering the device will also be preinstalled.

I can give the device in both configurations as per your wish.

This is the same thing with lesser RAM and costs much much less.

You can have a torrent client without installing a full linux os. Transmission can be installed on the default firmware as well and no linux experience is required.

But anyway all units are sold, will let you know if I get any more units.

New units are now available.

@darth_vader1280 : Well, you can use it as a 3G Gateway. Basically install any app you want and gives more flexibility etc.

1.How will NAS help me,If i want to make it torrent downloading device,and manage backup between 3 laptops?(steps/link to steps)
2.Is the stock available ATM?,if yes how much?

PS:I'm a noob,but a sucker for new tech :D

1. The torrent client can be installed with which you can download torrents. You have to option to create scheduled backups.

2. Yes, its available, price is Rs 2500 (no pendrive is included and it is not necessary as well, the torrent client will be installed alongwith the default firmware!)

Which linux version is installed? Can we RDP to linux installed? Can we install jdownloader in linux version?

I am interested in buying this for my download tasks but i am not sure how much it will be noob friendly.

^ You can go for the stock firmware with torrent client or a full linux installation in which case it will be Debian. There is no GUI installed, although you can install it but performance will be pathetic so there is no point.

jDownloader is a GUI application right, if it has a command line interface then you should be able to install it, but I haven't tried.

If you want to go for a full linux installation, get it only if you are comfortable with linux or willing to learn something new.

I need one. Please send me a PM with account details(Mine is ICICI bank). Send me with default firmware and procedure to install debian should be good.

One last question, Can we install utorrent in debian, so that i can add torrent via utorrent remote/web using my android mobile and track the progress anytime.
