looks like a h/w plm
but on ubuntu everything is fine
each time i format windows, within a week the sound problem comes
again. i am fed up with this, it has happened to me 9-10 times.
when i connect my hard disk to other system,my hard disk works fine normally
i have changed data cable.
is there a problem with my sound driver (which is sigmatel)????

or its the motherboard problem

Goto Control Panel -> Realtek Hd audio manager
In the mixer tab reduce the record volume of all three options to zero

i have sigmatel n the problem is not with that
the system becomes too slow
i play music ,the sound skips at places,
if i open a new task, like netbeans, etc, some game etc any application,
the sound stops playing, and resumes only when the opened application is fully loaded,
fomatting full hard disk never worked.
but my hard disk works fine on other system
even the booting is too slow(fast in other) and the startup sound is distorted too

@OP - Do the following......

1. Rightclick on My Computer and select Properties. Go to the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager.

2. Under IDE Ata/Atapi Controllers, double click on Primary IDE Channel. Under the Advanced Settings tab, check that the Current Transfer rate is set for PIO or DMA. If it is PIO only change it to DMA if the option is available.

3. If you are not able to change it then right click on the Primary IDE Channel and select Uninstall. Reboot your computer. It will reinstall it with the proper DMA mode setting on reboot.

This may solve your sound problem and slow booting process!!

I think windows is having a hard time reading your hard drive. Your hard drive could be failing!! Don't bother, if it happens again, do the mentioned steps again and it would be allright...

hmm
may be u r right.
but i recently get it repaired as it was in the warranty period
some times, during formatting, windows cud not detect ma hard disk
yeah, i wud do that again if that happens to me,
as long as i remember the plm started since i tried
linux on my system(but i dont think it shud be the reason)
anyway thnx again
