Samsung will be unveiling its own Android-based PMP - the Galaxy Player. The device is expected to be showcased at CES 2011.

The device apparently “takes inspiration” from the Galaxy S (our High-End Smartphone of the year) and boasts very similar specs to it – except the phone functionality, of course. This bears a very striking resemblance to the iPhone and the iPod Touch – the device it’ll go head-to-head against.

The PMP will run on Android 2.2 Froyo and will feature a 1GHz CPU, a 4-inch Super Clear LCD screen at 800x480 (WVGA), dual cameras with the rear-facing one at 3.2 megapixels, HD Video Playback, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and access to the Android Market and Samsung Apps platforms. To top it all off, the device will even feature a 1200mAh removable battery.

Update
Latest reports are indicating that the Galaxy player is scheduled to be released sometime in the April-June period. Korea (their own backyard) has an unfair advantage as it seems that the Galaxy player will be releasing there just a week after CES 2011. Also, it's been said that Samsung's phone division will be taking over the manufacturing of the player.
