Hi guys,
I have Vista as well as XP ... I want to run some application in vista which are installed on XP ... I tried but some work and some dont .... I tried Winamp and jet audio which are installed in XP ... both executed fine but when i loaded some DSP effect pluggins it gave an error saying registry entries cannot accessed... so is there a way to copy the registry entries pertaining to that app into vista ...
I mean is there any apllication which monitors installation process so that i can note down the registry entries and any inf files it creates and manually make these changes in vista ...

PrevX did that. Dunno if it still does. I think even System Mechanic can do it. Not sure since I used both of them long back.

install the same application/plugin in Vista by replacing the destination to point to that of Vista, simplest & 100% effective solution

^+1 for imav. Just decide a place to install your softwares and then install them in both OSs at the same place. Almost always works. But you'll have problem while uninstalling, for that, first make a copy of the installation folder of the application you want to uninstall, then uninstall. After unistall completes, place the copy at original position, boot the other OS and uninstall from there. :) When i had both XP and Vista, I had a partition with a separate Program Files folder and i used to install all my softwares there, those which i wanted to share between the two OSs.

usually, for software that dont extend their compatibility towards Vista, you can right click on the setup file and go to properties and under the "compatibility" tab, choose "windows XP service pack 2 (or other operating system) (the check box which is not enabled till now)... and then apply and then again right click on it and now "run as administrator". This is what I found on many sites and this is how I installed a very useful/important software for me "Visual Thesaurus" (wonderful software for learning new words) as it doesn't extend its setup to Vista yet. Good luck.
