Robotic technology never ceases to amaze us, and the SOINN (self-organizing incremental neural network) robot certainly isn't an exception. Led by Osamu Hasegawa, a research team at the Tokyo Institute of Technology has present an incredible robot that is capable of human reasoning and learning. The basis was to create a robot that utilizes a pattern and algorithm-based artificial intelligence, allowing it to adapt to various situations and environments in order to continue learning.
In its demonstration, the SOINN robot was able to take visual, auditory and tactile input data to learn and perform simple tasks. When confronted with a new task, the robot utilizes data from its past experiences, along with its sensory input to determine the optimal behavior for the given situation or environment. If it is still unfamiliar, it can even communicate with other robots via Wi-Fi in order to learn a solution.
