I'm planning on buying an external HDD primarily for backing up data but my budget is restricted to Rs 4000.I'm looking for a cheap but reliable HDD that will perform satisfactorily and should have a warranty of atleast 2 years or more. It'll also be great if the drive supports newer standards like USB 3.0.I'd be grateful if someone could recommend a couple of models from reputed brands that would suffice for my requirements.

(p.s.-please note that I have a strong aversion to drives which require additional drivers/special software in order to work properly-i prefer using the ones which work right out of the box i.e. they should be plug and play)

500 GB should be enough for my current needs-I intend to use the drive in windows XP and Win 7(and win 8 too, when it becomes available) and therefore the drive should have no compatibility issues with these operating systems.

Thanks for your suggestions.Do any of these drives require special software or drivers to function properly in windows?I've heard that WD external HDDs require something called "SES" drivers for optimal performance-do you know whether its true or not?As i've mentioned earlier,I'd like to avoid using such drives as its really cumbersome and irritating to install additional drivers in order to get these drives to work properly. Can anyone tell me whether Seagate external HDDs have such issues or not?Is Seagate more reliable than WD or is it the other way around?
