Recovering Data from Old Hard Disk repeatedly asking for formatting

Dear Members,

I would be really grateful if someone could guide me to some software/freeware with which I can recover data from my old hard disk (Seagate 500 GB).
Whenever I connect my old hard disk, it takes a little longer than normal to autorun all the contents and then keeps saying you need to format the Hard Disk.
Now sensing trouble I have already moved most of my data from this Hard Drive but some data I am unable to move. Can anybody suggest any Software/Freeware so that I can move all the data from this hard drive and then perhaps formatting it should solve the problem

Well the data could be in the bad sectors and which is why you are unable to copy or move it. There are no option to recover from a broken section, if this is the case then unfortunately you can't recover the data. Just format the drive and see if it helps in proper functioning of the drive.
