I have some very important data in a .rar (compressed) file. But now when I try to open that file, it gives the message - The achieve is either in unknown format or damaged. My brother and me tried searched on google and download so many repair tools. But we found all of them totally useless. Can anyone suggest, what to do in that case? How to repair that file or extract the files and folders from that file.

Thanks and regards

Amit

Are u using the .rar file from cd or in the hard disk ? Recovering data from RAR is little possibility, try recovering from WinRAR itself (latest one) and see if it solves the problem

In the zone
Do this:

Double click the rar file to open the WINRAR window.

Click Extract To button.

In the window tht appears, CHECK MARK the Keep broken files option.

Click Ok.

------------ By doing this u will be able to extract atleast those files which are intact. Better something than nothing.

Amit, i want to tell you that no any software are available which can allow you to recover any corrupted .rar file if it has no recovery records.
Almost all the sites only tries to fool us:
They claim that there software can surely recover damage rar archieve, but bleive me they can nothing if the Maker of those rar files have not included recovery records.
All the sites just gives Demo version, and this demo version checks the rar file and advise to by this software if you want to find your files again.
But it is just a money making trick.
Honestly, if you rar file have recovery Records then winrar is totally capable of recover this.

Thanks for your response. I am using .rar from hard disk. We tried to recover it through WinRar but it is not working.

Do this:

Double click the rar file to open the WINRAR window.

Click Extract To button.

In the window tht appears, CHECK MARK the Keep broken files option.

Click Ok.

Thanks for the help, tried this after reading, but getting the message - Achieve in unknown format or damaged.

Yes, I agree that all the sites are making fool to us. Some of those are giving such results that I don't know whether I should laugh or irritate. One claimed that we can see the files in demo version but can save those only after purchasing the software. But when we opened to see the files than it displayed those files which I never created/downloaded. Problem is that in case of WinRAR, that my rar file has not recovery recovery records. Anyway, thanks for your response.

Any other suggestions?????????
