Get the 1 GB one and use it alone. U can use both of them together but they may cause troubles in worst cases. And the 1 GB 400 Mhz one will operate in 266 MHz mode

Yes it is compatible but you will only get 266Mhz out of it

Yes you can use ur existing 256mb RAM and it will be 1280MB (1GB = 1024MB + 256MB = 1280MB)

If you use 1GB alone or if also use the 256MB both the RAM sticks will run at 266Mhz on your mobo...so it doesn't really matter.

What you do need to see if by adding the old 256RAM is your system giving you any problems (since the new one and the old one are at different frequencies) but you have to make that decision.

About a couple of years ago I used a 512MB 266Mhz RAM along with another 512MB 400Mhz RAM (both were from different companies i.e. the old one was Dynet and the new one was Transcend) together they ran at 266Mhz on my 845GV mobo but I never faced any problems. Since it is very difficult to get a 1GB at 266Mhz RAM these days you will have to go for the 1GB at 400Mhz but try both of'em together for a day and if everything goes fine you may want to keep it both.

Which one is better.....
Dynet, Hynix, Transcend...
and pls tell me the approx price for 1GB RAM 400 MHz...........
My earlier RAM was Dynet but I'm currently using Transcend and I'm not sure about Hynix.

Transcend is definately the better one but there is nothing wrong with Dynet...if you are on a tight budget go for Dynet it will save you money. Having said that Dynet will only give you 1 year warranty and Transcend will give you 3 year warranty.
