Yesterday bought a PC with the following config:

D102 M'Board
Dual Core 2.8GHz Processor
1GB RAM (two 512MB chips)
160GB SATA HDD

My question is, whenever I go to DirectX software for checking the config, it shows 894MB RAM instead of 1024MB (or may b arnd it). I am confused, why?

Any clue....

i think ur missing ram might b reserved for ur grafix. u can check tht in ur bios.
also check when u boot n does ram check. it will tell something like 894 mb + shared which will total to ur 1024 mb.

:D There is nothing to worry about.
The part of RAM which DirectX isn't showing is allocated to graphics.
You can check it in your BIOS configuration(Warning: Open the BIOS configuration only if you know how to manage or else you will damage your comp!)

Ur board has ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Graphics...which will take 128/64 mb ram..which is set in BIOS....u can go in ur BIOS and check.....no harm in checking unless and untill u change any values.... ;)....

Yeah !!!! I think u guys r rite, coz..... 1024 minus 894 comes out to be 130 i.e. 128MB approx....

But I think the graphics card installed in D102 shares 256 MB and frm the above, it seems its sharing 128 MB in my case.... is tht automatic setting? If not frm where it can b changed? And above all shud I change it or not?

yeah! you can change this setting from your BIOS conf. by pressing Del at boot and in...(forgot!) one of the menus you will find the setting. But remember the warning!!Don't try to play with it.If any thing goes wrong-remove the battery over the motherboard (after shutting down) and refix it and all setting will be set to default.

do not change it...128 mb is enough to play games....and also u will be giving up system ram and thus sacrificing ur system performance....also now a days games require more system ram....
either way if u increase onboard graphics memory then also it will not change much the games look.....as then u will be decreasing the sys ram ....thus games performance will affect....so in and all the setting u have r good enough
