HI,

I just had a doubt, i presently use two 1GB Ram modules in my system. I was planning to upgrade the RAM to four GB. What do you guys think is better. I get rid of the two ram modules and get two 2GB modules or et two more 1 GB modules to get it upto 4GB. I doubt i'll ever go up beyond that though.

Thanks

Yeah, it will still use DC if all 4 slots are filled, but some mobos are suposed to have stability probs with all 4 slots filled. Get 2x2 gigs instead. It'll also make future upgrades easier.

BTW. you do know that you will have to go to a 64 bit OS right? 32 bits cannot support 4 gigs of RAM. Also, i can't imagine what you would need 4 gigs for, 2 is usually enough.

Your mobo is based 650i sli chipsetif i am not wrong.
This mobo will easily handle 4 gigs in dual channel mode ( supports upto 8 gb )
There is no point to waste your remaining 2x1 gb modules as you will not upgrade in the near future. But if you want to upgrade then go for 2*2 gb ddr2 800 mhz ram modules.

There is no enough in the world of ram as it is the express way of your system. Future Multimedia applications will benefit from a large amount of ram.

You will also need 64 bbit edition of winxp or winvista to get all the juice from 4gb ram as 32 bit editions of both xp & vista only supports 3.23 gb of ram.

it is not true that 32bit oses can not handle 4 gb ram Only consumer level 32 bit oses like xp & vista can not support more than 3.23 gb of ram.

For example 32 bit edition of windows 2003 server enterprise supprts 32gb of ram & data center edition can handle 64gb of Ram.
